No, I’ve only had the 6112’s on my 21’ 4Runner. I had the regular lighter springs.

She’s still riding nice- a little firm but good. I had an an awesome tech that got me the alignment specs I wanted- with the JBA UCA’s she doesn’t wonder and feels planted even at highway speeds. I went with the extended travel 2.5’s with remote resi’s & adjusters “Tundra option” that Accutune offers(they will be here Friday). I have a 1.5” lift spring in the rear but will definitely have to increase that to a 2” minimum as she’s a tad nose high.

So, in 400 miles, you're on you 2nd suspension upgrade?

I'm satisfied with the Bilsteins. But, if money wasn't a concern, I'd probably have Accutune set up some Fox 2.5' or Kings for me. Or, maybe Radflo.

Unfortunately yes. I had the 4Runner 9 months just haven’t put to many miles on it as I’ve had a work car that I normally drive.

Ahh, nice! I have a work truck and I put more miles on the 4Runner. :D

Hope you love the Fox setup.

If you haven't gotten rid of the Bilsteins, you could list them here in B/S/T.

On the subject of the 6112's, I wonder if the medium duty 6112's I have are also valved differently (in addition to different spring rates) than the standard load version to compensate for the extra weight. That could explain why mine seem firmer to me.

The 6112's come with different load options, depending on your setup.

Another good option to look into is Dobinson, as they seem to have a good selection of spring rates as well. Hit up Crikeymike if you decide to go that route.

    Nice!
I was wondering that about the valving as well since you had mentioned you had the heavier springs on yours-

I have a guy locally that’s supposed to buy them this weekend- if he doesn’t show then they’ll definitely be on here for sale!

Looking good! How much did that go up in front? Looks pretty high, however from your pic doesn’t look like you have a lot of preload. I’m wanting to stay right around 2” with mine. I need to call Accutune and get mine going. Like that Viper cut also.

I have roughly 24” from center of hub to bottom of fender edge or 8 1/4” fender gap(between the tire of edge of fender). It’s somewhere around 3” of lift. These newer style Fox 2.5’s for 4Runners come with a 14” 600lb springs so you won’t see to much preload and still get a bit of lift.
Highly recommend Accutune. Thanks, I didn’t want to cut up high like a lot of others- from the front it’s hardly noticeable but from the side you can see it.

I'm revisiting this thread because I'm looking into spring rates for mine, I think I've settled on the 6112s. Why did you go with the medium load on yours? I believe that's the 650?

I have RSG sliders and full RCI steel skids on mine, and I'm kind of debating whether I need to go with the standard load 600 lb springs, or the 650. I'm thinking I may want to do a hidden winch setup, so I'm thinking the 650 lb might be more appropriate.

What's your setup as far as extra weight, and any insight as to whether I'd be better with 600 or 650? I know you're not an expert, I'm just curious because I think you have a similar setup as to what I'm looking for.

I have a low profile bumper and winch. Plus, full skids and sliders. I think it's the right setup for the weight. Although, the heavy rear springs might be a bit much.

I should add that I regularly have about 100-150 lbs. of tools and recovery gear in or on the truck as well.

This is definitely true. But, it cracked me up!

Thanks for the info! I typically don't carry a lot of weight in the rear, so I plan right now is to stick with the stock springs with a 1-in spacer. Debating whether or not I want to do 5160s or 5100s for the rear. At this point it's probably just going to come down to what happens to be in stock at the time that I order, haha.

I believe they have a "no weight added" spring option, in case you'd prefer lift springs over spacers. Springs are pretty reasonably priced, compared to some suspension components. Whether ir not they'd be in stock seems like a crap-shoot these days.

As far as 5100 vs 5160; I went 5100 because I wasn't sure if there was any difference in performance between the two, aside from heat dissipation. If I believed the 5160 had better damping than the 5100, I would have gone for the 5160.

It seems like Bilstein needs to build a real matching rear shock for the 6112. The 5100's seem overpowered by the springs and weight. Or, it would be nice if I could get a 5100 specifically valved for the heavy springs.

Yeah, that's a good point about the 5100 verse 5160. To the best of my knowledge, the 5160 is just a 5100 with the res. It looks damn cool, but unless you're running miles and miles of washboard at high speed, probably not really necessary for most drivers. If I lived out west I would look into something like that, but being here in New England we don't really have that kind of terrain. Well actually, the roads are getting so damn bad it might as well be desert running, haha.

The extra money for the 5160s isn't necessarily a deal breaker for me, but I'd be worried about the hose just being a potential leaking point.

You're right, it would be nice if Bilstein came out with a 2.5ish body rear shock, comparable to the 6112.

Maybe I'll look into those stock load springs for the rear. Like I said, I really don't carry much weight in the back, and I never tow. If anything, I find the stock rear end set up a little stiff as it is.

How about the Fox rear shocks that come on the Pro models? I'm kinda thinking of matching the 6112s with those shocks. Those Fox shocks have an attached reservoir so no hose and the bottom mount is like the OEM shocks with the rubber bushing. From my reading, it seems like the bottom mount that uses the spherical bearing which seems to come on a lot of high end shocks doesn't last as long.

Agreed with everything you said about the 5160. I almost went for them, but read of a few instances of leaking. It must not be too common, though.

Keep us posted on what you purchase, and install pics!

My only issue with that would be my OCD bugging me about mismatched shocks. :D

I have considered upgrading the rears, though. I will probably need to do something in the next year or two either way. At this point, I'm waiting until I can do something custom valved all around. Until I change my mind.. Again.

How you like those 6112s overall? I’m between the 6112/5160s (Ran them on my Tacoma) or the Eibach 2.0 kit. It seems to get solid review also and around the same price point. The ease of adjustability of those is a selling point to me on those. Decisions…decisions…

I'm happy with them. But, I hear very good things about the Eibach setup, too. I really don't think you can go wrong with either. Honestly, if I were buying again, I'd almost have to flip a coin.

Isn't the Eibach closer to the Bilstein 5100?

You are correct, as in they are the same shock size, but I’m not interested in 5100s.

Ease of adjustability on them... are they like the Fox 2.0s that have to be removed to be adjusted, or are they adjustable installed?

As far as the price point, they seem a little spendy to me considering they're not in the same league as 6112's. They DO look high quality though.

Looks like you have the gen 4 offset bushings.
