When I get out of my truck after driving a bit, it smells kinda bad. Like something is hot. I'm not sure if it's just some kind of coating burning off, or if my parking brake stuck, or what's going on. I've had my truck just a couple weeks, and it has about 300-350 miles on it. Is this normal or should I be concerned? I'm leaving for a road trip tonight...

I'm not sure what it is, but I also have smelled that a few times. Get out and it smells almost like my old jeep right before it started overheating.
I think it might be some stuff burning off? Not sure. Curious to see what everyone says.

Most likely the oils burning off of the new exhaust system, it’s normal.

My 4R had the same smell. Smelled sweet like coolant to me. Could be a coating sprayed on the bottom to prevent saltwater corrosion?? Have about 400 miles on mine now and smell is almost completely gone.

Don't know about these days, but catalytic converters, when new, are notorious for emitting an odor. I haven't bought new in years, so I don't know anymore.

Yeah, that's a good way to describe it. Sounds like it's normal though, so that's good!

Enjoy it, that’s the new car smell. ;)

Takes awhile for the exhaust components to burn in.

Mine had it when it came off the transport truck at the dealership. the salesman and I let it idle for a awhile before I took it for a test drive
I commented how I was burning off the new and it would suck for someone if I did not buy it lol

Normal. Every new car I have purchased has had the smell.

Almost 4,000 miles on my 4Runner currently and I still smell it sometimes.

It also has a poor muffler design, smells like burning rubber after driving under load.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
My 5th gen had the most unpleasant new car smell I've ever experienced.

Normal. Mine had that stink for weeks, could even smell it going up mountains with the windows down. It went away after about 500-700 miles as well.

I love the new vehicle smell because this is my first new vehicle, since I had it under coated with a oil based rust proofing formula and didn’t really drive it this winter that’s the only outside smell I currently smell. Better then getting rust though!

Got my 4runner in Feb with 1 mile on it and it had that smell for like about a week. After about 200 miles I no longer smell it.

The 4Runner is the only vehicle I’ve had (on my 2nd 5th gen now) that ALWAYS smells when accelerating quickly. My ‘19 never stopped (drove it 27000 miles) and I’ve smelled it with my ‘22 as well. I talked to the dealership about the 2019 a couple different times and they brushed it off sooooo ‍♀️ Guess it’s not abnormal?
