Why limited, and not the other trims, and why the 4Runner? If Luxury and comfort are the purpose then why not a fancy Highlander?

Having 2 jeeps 2000 & 2001 with Quadra drive full time systems I kind of like the AWD, but I hate dual climate control and that made me not want a limited. More stuff to break. Why a 4 runner for luxury and comfort, well it’s reliable & still looks like a suv

For the money spent on The Limited 4Runner, one can buy a sequoia as well. Sequoia is way bigger and has more room and it's also a real SUV

I don’t have a limited but almost bought one so figured I would just chime in on why I leaned heavy for one, I don’t even take my sr5 on trails I can’t beat up a new vehicle lol...and in New York we are not allowed legal trails/

The main reason that I bought my 2022 Limited was because it is the only trim package that you can get air conditioned seats, & that is what my lovely spouse wanted. I was always on the fence about the Limited as they were only offered in AWD before this year. I got a brand new 4WD on demand Limited with everything Toyota offers last month. It rides better than my neighbors brand new Lincoln! I now get to pimp out my 2016 Trail Premium 4WD.

As far as I know of nope. Pennsylvania is the go to. Adirondack area Lewis county has legal atv riding so maybe there?

The Limited is a true truck just like all 4 Runners...Body on Tacoma frame. Sequoia is on Tundra frame.

Never knew one of those existed? How did you get part time in a limited?

Tacoma may have a different frame. Tacoma is kind of American, the 4Runner is a Hilux. I think Hilux and Tacoma may be different.

The Limited has a great full-time 4WD system. And even with the luxuries, it's still a tough, capable, body-on-frame SUV.

The only trim I don't understand is the sport, when people immediately mod them for off-road.

I never knew they existed either. I have been scouring the entire Country for a year. Six of them landed in the US in January & Keating Toyota in Manvel Texas got one for me. It doesn't have a shifter like my 2016, but a dial on the console instead. I found a dirt road near the Drippings Springs Distillery last weekend just to be able to lube that front differential.

If the 4 runner is like a hilux then it should last forever (going on whistlindiesels you tube video of trying to kill a hilux for durability test)

4Runner is a Hilux. It is called the Hilux Surf in other countries. Hilux is a pickup truck, and 4Runner is the SUV version of it.

Hilux Surf is cheaper than the Land Cruiser Prado.

The dual climate in my 15-year-old 230,000 mile Volvo still works perfectly, pretty sure Toyota can build a reliable one as well.

This. And with the amount of posts I see about people having trouble engaging four-wheel drive, perhaps more people should buy Limiteds.

You mean you don't have to engage anything on Limited, the 4WD works automatically like a Rav4?,

Hope this funny incident from last Friday explain why Limited is important -
    upload_2022-3-14_17-24-38.jpg

You may / not have noticed that I looked at Highlander Limited / Platinum V6 (because of its newer TV-AWD) & Lexus GX before buying the Limited.

Regardless Highlander having new AWD system now I was not very confident in snow storms here.
Also 8.0 ground clearance is not much of a clearance number.

Lexus GX having same gas tank as the 4Runner but a bigger v8 would piss Mrs having to fill up more often.
Mrs previous had Toyota Venza with exact ground clearance as Lexus GX 8.1 there were days she plow snow coming in to the garage.
To compensate having less ground clearance to have a little more protection like gas tank skid you have to get a higher offroad package in GX.

Limited checked all the boxes, balanced fuel range with v6, Fulltime 4wd, 9.6 clearance from factory, all factory skids including gas tank, all creature comfort from sound system to ventilated seats, 3rd row, retractable running boards,etc..

We had SR5 but one day she skidded forgetting to put to 4wd. She is a driver who drives with very less sympathy to cars and don't want to mess with settings like 2wd/4wd.

    Edit -

Almost forgot to tell that I myself have come home with 4high on my TRD forgetting to put back in 2wd.

Also a minor note the GX vs Limited recently one member posted a video about the new Tundra and just after that topic Scotty Kilmer said 4Runner breaks the least compared to GX and parts cost less I guess its a clear win for me.

It's default setting is four high, full time. You can lock the center differential and four high, making it behave just like your 4Runner did in four high. You can also shift to four low, which automatically locks the center differential.

If you want to send your wife or girlfriend in it out into the snow and you don't want to teach her how to correctly operate the four-wheel drive, the Limited is the one for you.

Also, it just occurred to me that it's basically the same four-wheel drive system that the Land cruiser uses. The transfer case itself is probably different, but operates in the same principle.

A RAV4 or Highlander or any other front wheel drive based crossover is going to be front wheel drive until the front wheels slip, then it will automatically send power to the rears as needed with no input from the driver. That's really the major thing that makes a crossover a crossover, being primarily front wheel drive.

Check out Driving Sports TV on YouTube. I think you linked one of his videos a while back where he compared his 4Runner to a Bronco, but he explains a lot of this and does a lot of tests of these crossovers. You'll probably find a lot of good information there.

That's still some work. Crossover all wheel drive systems are automatic, like Subaru's. One doesn't have to do anything.

Actually, the 4runner frame is fully boxed. It's a stronger frame than the Tacoma has. They do share parts, though.
