    Hey y'all.

Trying to pinpoint a noise from my '14 SR5 with 80k miles.

I have a very faint, high frequency "ringing/whine" coming from the truck at speeds above 60mph. It's almost like a very quiet high pitch steady hum that doesn't change frequency with speed or direction. The only thing I can compare it to is when you're surfacing/turning brake rotors and you get that high pitch metallic hum.

It's not a tire noise, or wind noise. No vibration is present either.

I know there are two TSB's for these trucks, one is the needle bearing in the front differential, and the second is to replace the entire rear carrier.

    Anyone experience anything like this?

Just a thought. There are designated positions on the factory roof rails that show where to put the cross bars to eliminate/limit wind noise. I know you said it wasn't wind noise, but.....

My 4R isn’t equipped with cross bars, just roof rails. Although that is a good point to consider.

Interesting. I thought the cross bars were stock on all 5th gens. Were yours removed?

Sounds like the rear diff. Mine makes a very slight whine with light throttle load at 60-70mph.

Interesting. What year is yours? I know there's the TSB to replace the rear diff and/or front diff depending on noises, but I'm obviously outside of warranty for both.

    No idea, honestly.

    Mines a 21 OR. Around 25k miles.

I changed out the diff oil to see if that would help, but it stayed the same.

I think I read that tsb a while back. I think the first fix was to put sound deadener under the carpet…lol. After much singing and dancing, it appears you may be able to escalate it to a replacement.

If it blows up, I’ll take it to the dealer. Then they’ll blame it on the 1.5 in lift.

That’s when Ill re-gear and finally decide to get 285s lol

Yeah I did all the fluids as soon as I picked mine up as well, no change in noises.

Guess I'll just let it be until something happens or it gets louder and easier to pinpoint, because I still don't know for certain where it's coming from. It's just too faint. But I'm a perfectionist so that doesn't help...
