Tried searching, but couldn't find anything.
Does anybody else get the ever loving s**t shocked out of them when exiting their vehicle?
I thought it was the carpet floor mats at first, but after replacing with Husky liners I am still getting shocked. It's got to be the cloth seats and my giant butt sliding across them as I exit.

Anybody else have this problem? I'm sure seat covers will be my next solution.

It’s called the triboelectric effect. Many materials get charged by sliding, rubbing, even just separating them by pulling apart, like tape from a roll.
It’s more pronounced in lower humidity, like cold winter air.

Different seat covers probably will not help. Unless they are carbon impregnated or have an antistatic treatment.

Actually, no. Arkansas so very humid. Maybe it'll get better this summer when I'm swimming through the humidity.

Maybe it's the cold air right now. But it's EVERY SINGLE TIME I get out of my car reach to catch the door frame after opening it and big shock. Worse than anything I've ever gotten even from deliberately rubbing my feet on the carpet.

The old advice was to hold the car key tightly in your hand and touch it to the car frame as you slide out to discharge your body.
But with keyless ignitions maybe carry another metal piece or ring as a discharge tool. Regardless, you still have to remember to do the gyration every time.

Hope you find a remedy. That CAN be very annoying.

Luckily my base SR5 has a key. I'll try that out.

Touch and hold the door ( or door jam or any portion that is metal really) while you are getting out as you are touching the ground. This way you and the car are of the same electrical potential. If you touch the ground before you touch the car, you are already a different potential. Just like zapping a door knob.

    Lots of goodies
Maybe a shot of this on your hands before you get out or you could try rubbing dryer sheets on your ass. They would keep your truck smelling nice at least.

For me, having owned an FJ-40 for over 34 years, I got used to keeping a hand on the door as I jumped out of it. And besides, I kinda like the little bit-o-charge it gives me.
It hasn’t affected me too much… from what I remember.
