I didn't buy my Trail Premium because it HAD a scoop. It stinks with glare, but you can't tell people to not buy a midrange/high end 4R based on this information alone.

So a scoop less hood doesn’t have glare?

What color seems to be the most problematic? I've got a black 4runner and have never noticed a glare - maybe I just need to keep my eyes open when driving?

Hi nice to meet ya. I could say the same to you, this thread is about dealing with the glare from a hood scoop. So getting a hood with out a hood scoop doesn’t solve the problem either. Just saying.

I have a mgm sport taco, and honestly the glare isn’t any worse than glare I’ve had from other non scooped hoodies. But I think you location and or times you drive have the biggest effect. Which reminds me, clock switches coming soon.

oh, sorry, I forgot this was a thread about glare off hood scoops.:rasta:

I have a silver ORP. I don’t think it’s the paint color as much as the shiny high gloss clear top coat. I had the scoop wrapped in a light gray matte vinyl. Looks good and no glare when driving toward the setting sun.

Hey all, the Etsy link is 4runners.com member who cuts them himself. The white t4r on his page is me. He uses a stretchy version of vinyl. It's dope, self healing, and works great for glare. Chewy-approved. The member does a lot for the local t4r community around here, show some support!

Yeah honestly I didn't pay attention to it blinded me driving East early one morning. It's not all models or style I think

It mostly has to do with the fact that the scoop is curved front to back. This allows the sun to reflect into your eyes from a range of angles. If the scoop was flat, you would only get the reflection from essentially one angle.

my Black '22 Pro was precise when blinding in the morning heading east (or in the afternoon heading west). Low sun hits that hood bulge and it's right into the driver's eye.

I bought one of the matte black vinyl cutouts from the dude on Etsy. It shipped/delivered pretty quick (within a week), and came with solid instructions, and it went one perfectly. Here's mine. Solved the issue.

The silly hood bulge is supposed to look like a scoop. I sometimes wish I had traded mine for a normal hood before it had a bunch of chips in it.

i call it a rock catcher. It really does get chips easily, doesn’t it? My hood is getting repainted this week oddly enough. Rock actually lifted the paint. I have a quarter size bubble on the front of my hood.

While I appreciate the member 'doing a lot for the t4r community', the pricing is a bit much for a piece of vinyl. $50 + $8.45 shipping? I think I might just deal with the glare from time to time...

You're right it is expensive, but so is the material and the cutting tools. I think a lot of us just get used to fully manufactured products so we're used to those prices.

On my Super White Tacoma TRD Sport (with the hood scoop), after I polished and ceramic coated it, the glare off of the hood scoop got pretty bad at certain times of the day. More reflective colors would probably be worse.

You are really coming across as a person who is desperate to justify their choice because secretly they regret it. SR5's are cool too though so I would be happy with it if I were you. In any case, I am not a fan of fake scoops but Toyota executed this one pretty well and I have grown to like it.

I just happen to like things that are FUNCTIONAL! I could go get a worthless, dirt catching, stone catching hood scoop; but what for ?? It must just be a youthful thing...enjoy! LOL!
Sorry, forgot to quote the idiot that inspired my post!
