Pedal Commander thoughts 5gen 4 runner

Anyone running a pedal commander? I’ve had one for a few days and so far I’m pretty impressed. I have been running it at city 0. Not only do I have great throttle response and throttle control but my truck has been reading insane average MPGs on the highway (20-23)!! Not sure if it’s real or the computer is just confused lol but we’ll see more long term.

I've had a PC on more than one vehicle. If it has poor throttle response from the factory, I buy one.

 

I put mine on about 4 months ago after reading posts for and against. Love it. I run mine in sport with 3 bars most of the time on paved roads.Is it magic? No it is not but it makes me happy. Reported gas mileage is all over the board so I cant speak to that but I didn’t buy it for that.

 

Just installed mine tonight and really enjoying it so far. I haven’t figured out my go-to setting yet, but it works as advertised.

 

Had a Pedal Commander on my 2021 4R since day one. Factory throttle response is like mashed potatoes. Best VFM mod in my opinion.

 

City 2 is where it’s at

 

I run a different one, but they all do the same thing. Besides waking up the potato response, you can also use the other mode (eco or whatever) when wheeling, or, in snow. It does the opposite, and you can have a very steady pedal, to not knock the tires off. (when crawling, or, in weather) Pretty rad.....

 

City 2 agree....best thing since hot bread.... although I do seem to jerk it at times...but ok.

 

I have one similar to the PC, I can definitely say it makes a difference. I noticed it as soon as I left the driveway after installing it.

Obviously it doesn't add any more power, but the quicker throttle response and the fact that it seems to take away the resistance in the pedal that you have to push through before triggering a downshift, makes it feel like it's a little bit quicker, or at least more willing to stay in the power band. There's a few hills near me, and I noticed that it seems to climb them better, because it will downshift a little bit more easily.

Mine has an "auto" mode, and I typically leave it in a that one. I find that mode doesn't really affect my MPG too much, though I tend to drive like a grandma, haha.

I still haven't tried all the modes, I tried out the least aggressive sport setting, and I thought even that was a little excessive.

Mine has an "eco" mode, which I think would be great in the snow and icy conditions, and I've tried it while off-roading, and I liked it, it gave me a very smooth throttle control. There was one particular obstacle that I climbed and the spotter commented that I did it the smoothest out of a group of about a dozen that attempted it.

I have the Hikeit, which I purchased on Black Friday for 120, but even at its full price of 169 I would recommend it. I think it's great, and in almost 3 months of having it installed I haven't had any issues or a check engine light. I really don't see why one would spend 300 plus for the PC.

 

I have had my PC installed for around a year now. I run it in one of the City modes - because that is where I want better response. I am very happy with what it does.

 

Does anyone know if these boosters interfere with the different throttle curves used by the different off-road modes? Can you use both at once, or do you guys turn it off then.

 

These throttle controllers are simply voltage amplifiers between the gas pedal and the ECU. Think of them as “foot amplifiers”. They ramp up the voltage output quicker to its max value (4.6V) to the ECU. The ECU does all the controlling of the throttle body. The “throttle controllers” do not actually “control” anything. All they do is put in a bigger request to the ECU for more gas. The ECU does the rest. And it controls the off-road modes like Crawl Control, Multi Terrain Select, etc, not the gas pedal/throttle controller.

I have the Spring Booster and for off roading I usually leave it on since I’m used to the feel of it, I don’t set it very aggressively. But sometimes I will switch it off for going really slow in very hairy terrain.

 

We have a couple sprint boosters for wife and I and a friend. We compared a few different brands and sprint booster was best set up. I keep our set at sport 9. The race mode is very responsive but didn't like for daily driving. You can set up and remove the remote control and dealer won't even see it. There are videos showing that all it does is take the hesitation out and pedal and throttle body are in sync rather that the hesitation with stock set up.
