Being a bit lazy here. Guess I should review my owners manual again.

    21' TRD/ORP : Are the side mirrors heated ?

Years ago, if you had heated side mirrors, the word "heated" was etched in the glass itself. Don't think the manufactures do this anymore (?)

    Thanks for any replies.

I think they are. Is there any trim on the 4runner that doesn’t have them?

Nobody puts that on the glass anymore, just like they don’t put ABS or 16 valve on cars, either.

The mirror defrosters come on with the rear window defroster.

A great reference is your model year owner manual. Download the PDF (from https://www.toyota.com/owners/resources/warranty-owners-manuals) into your phone. Search for the terms of interest.
Toyota doesn’t call them “heated mirrors” etc. They refer to “defogging”.

Although our 4Runners don’t have a lot of fancy gee wize accessories like other manufacturers, Toyota gave us plenty of practical systems such as the heated mirrors and windshield wiper heaters. That’s what I really appreciate about our vehicles.

I question whether my windshield wiper heaters actually do anything useful though. I had them on for quite a while the other day and they didn't melt existing ice on the blades nor did they seem to prevent new ice from forming. Maybe I'm just misinterpreting their function or mine simply don't work?

Sounds like they aren’t working properly. You should be able to feel the glass where they’re located and then touch the windshield somewhere else as a comparison. I don’t believe they get extremely hot but you should notice a difference. Unless you’re testing in 80 degree weather.

The premiums (of course the limited and Pro Bro as well) only had it at one point but I'm not sure if that changed.

I think it is meant to keep the wipers from sticking to the windshield.

I'll have to give it a feel one of these days. It's cold enough here in MN that I should be able to notice. Maybe my expectations were too high and it just couldn't keep up, but it definitely seemed pretty useless at the time I could have benefited from it.

Yes, you guys definitely get real winter in Minnesota.

All trims have them I’m sure since my base SR5 does. My 2012 Sequoia has heated windshield wipers too. It has its own switch just above your left knee on the 5th gen 4Runner.

Mine melted off ice this morning in just a few minutes

mine also has the heated option for the windshield
But is it the strip at the bottom of the window that heats up or the wipers?

I think it’s the bottom part of the window that heats up.

You are correct, the heating element is in the glass, not the actual wiper itself.

the wiper heaters are meant to turn rock chips into huge cracks.

My driver side mirror takes longer to heat up than the pass side & the window heater is slow as the drivers mirror

It takes awhile. Right before my 36 month bumper to bumper warranty was expiring, I checked everything! Including the deice system. This is the first vehicle I’ve ever owned where I didn’t have to use the warranty. I’ve still got a bit left on the powertrain warranty. Fingers crossed.
