Got my '22 ORP and thought that I'd be able to do a remote start with it. It doesn't work. Dealer said some will, some won't. Huh?
Can't remote start with the Toyota app either.
What am I missing? I thought all premium models had this capability. Perhaps I was mistaken.
    Thanks.

We don't get remote start on the ORP, that's the pros's and limited I believe.

I believe you are correct. For some reason I seem to recall reading that the premium models had this capability as well.
Might simply be dazed and confused.

I thought the same thing when I bought mine this past March. It's pretty lame it doesn't have it from the factory IMO.

From reading other posts about this, some premiums in Canada come with remote start, but not in the U.S. Only Pro's and Limiteds. It's tied to the JBL sound system as part of an option package.

My dealer told me that my SR5 Premium came with it and got me all excited. The sales guy even helped me set up the app but we couldn't try it because "some of the stuff doesn't populate for hours". Yeah right. I found out later that mine didn't have it. The dealer said they would put one in for $500 (their supposed cost) but I ended up buying one for $165 off Azm and put it in myself. Doesn't work with the app but then again I won't be paying $80+ for the subscription I guess.

Canuck ‘21 TRD Off Road owner here and can confirm it does have remote start with the key fob.

IIRC this trim in Canada most equivalent to the ORP trim in the US; interesting how the remote start is tied to other add-on on packages there but thrown in here. o_O

    Kyx nerfbars, TRD roof rack.
Can you link or post the model? I have seen a few versions. I think one was xtart or something for like $195.

I ended up with this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/Start-X-Remo...0795613&sprefix=startx+4runner,aps,109&sr=8-3

Paid $169 for it a month or so ago. I see that it has gone up. Was a choice between this one and the one that Accessorides offered. Went with this one because it was cheaper at the time and the install looked simpler. I think both are well reviewed. The one I got was for the push to start, uses the factory key fob to start. My only complaint is that the range of the factory fob's is not that great but i typically just need to look out a window so it is close enough. Most other complaints are that the vehicle shuts off when you open any of the doors but I believe that even the factory ones do that with the push to start models. Security feature i believe

Take a look at the Accessorides one as well ... and i believe both models offer a longer range option

Agree! I guess they figure with the more prevalent cold weather up your way, it's more of a valuable option. For most of us down here, it's a convenience, whereas it could be almost needed up your way!.

It is a bit of a pain to have to restart every time but it works. I wish I had considered the extended range version as the fobs don't have much.

I will confirm that you CAN open the rear hatch and it will stay running. I can load just fine like that.. Not sure if you could then crawl in and drive off without a fob present.

My friends' stock SR5 has the key remote start.
My same year (2016) Trail Premium simply will NOT work despite my attempts.
    It's frustrating. I don't know why.

They could disable the vehicle in another way like they do with other vehicles. Our Chevy just won't allow you to shift out of park when it's been started remotely until the key is in and turned to the "on" position. I know they use a smart key but I still think there's a better way than to have it shut off completely... It's so weird to me.

My toyota guy at Koch Toyota here in Ma. put in an aftermarket remote start on my OR premium and tied it to my factory remote just like oem. Works great

I liked my last one. Touching the brake turned it off unless the key was in and on. In this case, why not just turn it off only if the fob is not present? It locks the doors so you need the fob to just open the door. Keep it running if it is on you ... kill it if not. What happens if a crook just busts a window and climbs in? Kill it when the brake is touched
