So I got the nice TRD intake, got it installed, no CELs, a bit more growl... Life is good!

But today I was looking on that w-w-dot thing for a spare element... so when I have to clean the one in the truck, I can do it at my leisure. Can't find one to save myself... everyone has them as discontinued and/or out of stock. I should have had enough sense to realize that since the Intakes were no longer being made, the elements would be scarce. So much for "with age comes wisdom"...

Anyway, I emailed K&N to see if they have one that will replace the PTR43-00083, but thought I would check here to see if anybody knows where I might scare one up...

Let me know what you find. I too would like a spare. I know I tried to replace an old toyota filter with a k and n once and the oils they use saturated a sensor and caused problems. Not sure if this is still the case.

Heard back from K&N... Bad news... they actually made the TRD filters, and they are discontinued.

However, I measured the TRD filter, and the now removed stock filter, and they are the same size (miracles do happen!) and K&N makes a replacement high performance element (33-2438) that is for 4.0l V6, and is the exact same dimensions. So I'll be getting one of those pronto, and for a whole lot less than the TRD version used to go for!

Once you get one can you verify and maybe post a pic? Thanks

I use to run that that K&N Filter Now I use the WIX 49350 perfect drop in fit and actually does better job filtering than the K&N the down side is the WIX is a throw away and the down side of the K&N is yes better Air flow however the K&N does not filter as good so the quality of clean air delivered to the engine is lower.

How did you arrive at that conclusion?

I personally have run K&N on my turbo hayabusa, ever SUV, pickup and my daughters car. Never an issue. Most run 100k miles and I save a lot of money is disposable units and its a shit ton better for the environment.

Tried for several hours to find the TRD PTR43-00083 filter element... every site that came up said "Discontinued" etc... Then I emailed K&N to see if they had a replacement, and the reply was "we made the TRD elements, and they are discontinued".

As for the intake itself, I don't see it on the TRD website, and most of the places you can find it seem to be selling NOS items. Now, that said, I have no direct intel from TRD that its OOP, but it sure seems that way...

So what everyone is saying is the TRD filter was a different size than any other same Gen intake?

I Have 2 TRD Filters and comparing them to the K&N Part number 33-2438 that I have 1 of the only difference I can see is as far as fitment that it is less than a quarter inch deeper on the pleats the Major difference of the TRD Filter is the density of the pleats is better than the Regular K&N.

And before anyone asks why I have so many filters is because here in summer time (South west Utah) when on the trails with others sometimes it is like driving thru a major dust storm so I want a fresh filter or 2 ready when it is needed. But then I am no longer using the K&N filter and carry extra WIX filter along with the 2 TRD filters.

If it’s the same size as original filter just drop that in while cleaning the TRD filter and save some money.

Thats what I was kinda getting at. If the are the same size (TRD OEM and K&N) then the K&N for OEM can be used.

Where can I get one? My dealer doesn't have any. Does the Wix work in the CAI box? Is the stock filter same dimensions?

WIX 49350 <-------- Yes it drops right in the CAI box perfectly, the stock filter will also fit however the stock filter seal is a bit thinner so the lid feels like it a little loose.
