Thats what I was told by the dealer I used, I asked about ordering a trd pro in the new green color, and was told no go, its all based on allocation now. I could put my name down for one, but there was no idea when or if they would even get one.

My bad, didn’t see you said TRD pro, only read TRD colors.

I could be wrong but it is my understanding that this is just the way Toyota does business and it has always been based on allocation. I think there is an article earlier in this thread describing the process. Basically, Toyota makes what they make and it's up to the dealership to try to get something as close as possible to what you want allocated to them.

It may be completely true that your dealership can't score one at this point, but it sounds to me like a typical car salesman blowing smoke up your ass about why they can't get one.

That's just how they do it. Toyota doesn't do custom builds, they don't take orders. Toyota sends what they send, and you can be put on a waiting list for when they send what you want.

With all the Covid restrictions and chip shortages, they still produced more 2021 model 4Runners than any other year. I'd be willing to guess that 2022 they'll build even more. These aren't as scarce as the market would indicate.

You go to your salesperson, they take your request, their inventory manager will check inventories and see what they have or can get that is close to what you want. They try to sell you that, once they realize you are not willing to buy just anything, they will take your request and try to match it up with what they are allocated or make a dealer trade for something they are allocated. Pre Covid, dealerships swapped allocations all the time, not right now. Dealerships are not willing to give up anything as their inventories are none.

Toyota builds certain colors and models at a time, their just in time process doesn't allow for unnecessary (ordered) changes in the assembly lines.

Ya, Toyota had a great year in 21, and they project to have an even better year in 22. However, the 4runners are very scarce when compared to 2019, and this is feeding into the frenzy.

I just found out that my ORP in Lunar rock with KDSS I ordered in September arrived at Long Beach on 2/7. Dealer says should be in Montana in 4 to 6 weeks.

I feel like I struck gold!

That’s for keeping the hunt going. Everyone that sells for MSRP plus market adjustment is another reason for the dealerships to continue to steal, I mean take advantage of customers.

Where did you find out how to install, were you able to do it without removing the bumpers?

I found a few good YouTube videos. The front bumper cover doesn’t need to be removed for the valence to be replaced. The rear bumper cover I did remove, but it was a lot easier than I expected.

Did you need to buy any extra clips or anything or was it easy to come off without damaging anything. I do have a tool for the clips.

No need to buy extra clips or any need for special tools as long as you have the off road model which already has the silver valences. Here are the videos I followed.

I have no idea at this point originally it was the "beginning" of February but now it has been pushed back to February 18th probably the fourth or fifth time it has been moved.

My wait was worth it. This morning I traded my 2018 TRD Sport Tacoma in for my new 4Runner SR5:

    IMG_0590_LI.jpg

Tri County Toyota was very easy to work with, and the salesman who I bought my last 4 Toyota from is a pleasure to work with. MSRP, Wild Discount, great trade allowance on my Tacoma. Stopped along my driveway for a proper setting picture:

It's in Freight status, so at this point it doesn't matter what trim it is. They all ship the same.

The first deposit I put down was in July, lol. Never heard from them until I got this one and got my first deposit back.

Well freight status is good…bc once it hits ground (mine hit ground yesterday) and lo and behold here it is! I can’t wait until yours comes in!! I love the pro but I’m equally happy with the off road. It’s so strange, I’ve never even driven a 4Runner…I bought this one unseen…but I know I’ll love it!

I hope there is a truck full of Lunar Rock 4runners coming my way. I think mine might be in Ground status and I now get a 404 when hitting the API.
