I picked up the Morimoto XB gen 2 for a steal and put them on my 2020 ORP last night. Everything is working as expected and output vs stock halogen is night and day!

I am, however, experiencing a problem with the fitment and am curious if anyone else ran into this and if so what they did to fix it. Unfortunately I did not notice until I put everything back together but the issue is the exact same on both sides of the vehicle.

Basically the headlights appear to sit a quarter inch too low. There is also a spot where the paint from the car is starting to rub off although I believe this was actually caused by the OEM headlights and the area was just covered by the OEM lights so I never realized it. Attached are a few pics.

Anyone else have this issue? Did I screw something up or are the tolerance for this light just a bit off?

Cant speak for fitment issues, but if you are able to set the assembly a little differently you will want to touch up that spot as soon as possible to keep from rusting. (im sure you already know this, but life surprises me all the time lol.

Don't worry - I have my touch up pen ready! I just need to find the time to take off the bumper again to mess around with this. Hoping someone can chime in with an easy solution.

I hope mine aren't going to be off like that. They arrived yesterday but won't be installed until Friday or Saturday.

At the very least you will know to play around with the fitment before tightening everything back up. I was reading a discussion on another forum and someone had trouble with theirs and discovered the bracket you transfer from the OEM lights was not seated correctly. I'm wondering if that's my issue...

    Good luck on the install!

Yep mine are like that as well. My tails are like that too. Hard to find parts that will be as close/tight as OEM when it comes to head/tail lights. I don't have the corner rubbing off and your Mori's shouldn't cause that either.

Bummer. Guess I'll get over it because the lights otherwise work great and look amazing.

Yeah the brackets could be an issue if it's the same on both sides. I had the XBs on my 2013 Tundra and the fitment was off. The XBs on my 2020 Tundra are a perfect fit. I'll install hers this weekend. If I have any issues and come up with a fix, I'll let you guys know. I was aircraft and jet engine maintenance for 24 years, so I have alot of mechanical background.

Overall looks pretty comparable. Did you run into any issues? Any paint rubbing off in the corners?

I love those in amber! I snagged the white but those look slick!

The passenger side had a mark when I pulled it out. No issues with installation at all.

After following this thread, I'm now seeing the fitment gap in pretty much all product shots for these lights.

Would it possible be to use some washers to raise the housings up to lessen the fitment gap?

I would like to see if someone tries this. I am not going to take my bumper off for a while but if I ever do ill give it a try and report back. Based on how the brackets fit I'm not fully convinced that will work but it would be worth trying. I'm just living with it for right now.

Any of you guys had any issues popping the corners of the bumper back in? I'm referring to just below the far outer edge of the headlight. Driver's side is fine but my passenger side just stays popped out..so annoying.

I did with my passenger side too - it took some playing around with to seat it back properly and has since actually popped back out again slightly. For me it's small enough that I just ignore it but I've seen a few people have this issue. I'm not sure if it's the lights or if the bumper just doesn't like to go back together...

Is your 4Runner a Limited trim? I've read it's somewhat common for the Limited bumper skins to pop off the retaining clips in the area below the headlights

the only other that comes to mind would be the order of reassembly. did you push the bumper skin back onto the clips before fastening the wheel arch bolts?

Honestly I don't recall but I wouldn't be surprised if I did that incorrectly.

Mine is an '19 ORP. Yeah I tried all kinds of things and orders. It may have something to do with the grill because when I line up the holes for the grill, then the corner pops out again...weird and frustrating.

I ran into the same problem. Fitment at the top is not reaching where it should. I tried to remove all bolts excpet for the top to slide it up because the top flange actually has some adjustment to it. The hole is oblong but no luck the bracket on the headlight has too mu flex to hold it in place. So I cam to the conclustion these 1500 dollars lights just dont have a housing that is the exact same as OEM. Guess I will live with it but it doesnt look good.
Be forewarned prior to buying these lights they will be gapped at the top of the fender where it comes to a point.

From what I can tell on mine, is Morimoto designed that slight gap into the design to acount for variances in hood adjustment like can be seen all the way across the leading edge of the hood. Might be completely wrong abot that but I'm fine with it.

Edit: Sry guys, just realized you're referencing the rubbing against the paint in the top corners. On mine, there is the slightest gap between the light assembly and the paint on the body so no rubbing.

Rob, I hear you on the hood space thats not an issue it's the gap at the point of the fender that is troublesome. 17124428522073052469894712130968.jpg 17124429065158294194364732828538.jpg 17124428522073052469894712130968.jpg
