So when I use my phone to start my 4 Runner and when I go to get in, as soon as I open the door the engine shuts off. Is there any way to change that? I have read through the owners manual & all the other manuals in the 2” thick binder they come in & have not found anything about it. I know it is a remote connect service, but nothing there either.
Thanks for any help on this. It’s so frustrating.

I thought Subaru was the only one to have such a stupid system until I started looking into Toyotas.

Subarus system shuts the engine off when you open a door. Toyotas shuts the engine off as soon as you unlock the 4Runner. I’ve had both systems and I wish they copied other brands that let the engine run and just need you to push the start button with the key fob inside the car to keep the engine running.

I think it is there as a safety measure. I would appreciate any kind of safety thing with rise of car theft after pandemic. Again it's just me the scary cat..:)

Well thats weird because when I had an Outback it stayed on when I opened the door. Now my 4R shuts off when I open the for not when I unlock it. Thats with a Compustar system, but still no way to override the Toyota safety system. On a plus side, I can run my 4R for up to 30 minutes to warm it up which is nice.

My wife's Outback is a 2014, it turns off when you open a door or the rear hatch.

I had a '22 Wilderness and it did not. Must have changed the software.

I have the same remote start issue, shuts off when I open the door to get in.
Is this something everyone is experiencing?
When I take mine in for it's first service at my dealer I'm going to ask if they can alter that setting somehow.
As was mentioned, it's the only thing that I don't like!

That's a "feature," I'm pretty sure they can't change it.

I'll ask and pass along what they say after my first service.
I have an Audi A3 as well, and it had the extremely irritating auto shut-off and start when your at a traffic light. You can switch it off via the dash switch, but you have to do that every time after each start up.
I asked Audi to make the default to not auto stop-start, and they re-programmed that once the vehicle was outside of warranty.
Hopefully Toyota can do the same.

Even my aftermarket system shuts off. It’s a a Toyota thing. Hate it.

I have an Audi as well. Did you know that most of the coding can be done through VCDS or OBDeleven (both of which you can buy and do yourself without taking to dealer)? You can do things such as turn off Auto start/stop among many other things. No such luck on a Toyota. It is the way it is.
