What is this black goo that only dries on skin, yet still transfers onto anything that comes within a half inch of it ffs!?!? I was trying to be careful and still got it all over the place. There have to be at least a dozen better ways to attach that thing.

RTV silicone? I wouldn’t have ever guessed that. It’s some kind of extra sticky never drying silicone.

I thought for sure this was going to be a post about anti-seize! :angrygirl:

This is certainly on the short list, too!

No, it's not an RTV silicone. It is called Butyl. It is non-hardening and comes in a tube and in a tape form.

Yep that it is, I have pull many door panels off and it is there to hold the water shield plastic in place yet let the area be serviceable and what ever you do Don't get it in the washing machine or Dryer unless you plan on buying a lot of new clothing and spend a great deal of time with a can of brake cleaner and rags hunting down the gobs all over the place inside the washing machine / Dryer been there done that paid the price.

I love butyl backed tape. I keep a roll in every vehicle. Can be handy stuff in an emergency. It's just no fun taking it off.

I install things on cell towers for a living. We use that waterproof cable
connections. Best to do it in cold weather. once it gets the least bit warm (like in your hands), it's everywhere.
