Something really weird about the photos Toyota released for the new 2023 Sequoia. They look incredibly subpar.

Lighting is awful. The location looks subpar. It's like they just drove the vehicle to the nearest park and took some shots. Nevermind time of day, lighting, and photo touchups. Even the photoshopping to remove the driver looks horrible and not at all up to their standard. Really strange.

You're definitely right about that! I thought there had been some talk of them using the 2.4 L out of a Lexus yeah, but like you said it is all speculation.

I would have an extremely hard time seeing the 4runner get the same engine as the Tundra/Sequoia. You’d be basically maki g a freaking monster lol

That would really tempt me to upgrade to a 6 gen, lol

It's such an iconic part of the 4Runner (at least I think it is) that surely they wouldn't consider scrapping it.

Exactly. There's no way the 4Runner gets a turbo V6 when that's the standard sized engine for the full sized Tundra and Sequoia.

Some claim it's speculation to say the 6th gen 4Runner gets a 4cyl turbo.

I'm going to say it's more of an educated guess.

Yeah, 4Runner will probably get all the leftover crappy 5.7 V8s.

I thought the same thing. Looks very rushed at best. After I read your post, I zoomed in and started looking for photographer reflections! ;)

I think they knocked it out of the park... A couple things I'm sort of eh on like the lack of roll down rear window, but definitely a nice improvement of the current gen! Sort of gives me hope for what to expect with the 6th gen 4R.

I knew I had seen this styling before. Basically, Toyota took the rear end from a late 90's Previa and slapped it on the new Sequoia.

good catch here, thought it looked fairly familiar. also thought the new sequoia rear (lights especially) was very similar to the design language of whats on the current sienna lol

guess the 6th gen 4R will follow the similar design, don't think its a bad look, but now hate that i have it linked with the previa and sienna lol

Hope Toyota gets the turbo wastegate issue fixed before release. There is a guy on youtube whose Tundra is now a brick. His turbo went out at 300 miles and it has now been at the dealer for 3 weeks with no fix date insight.

    I'm digging that black A-Pillar.
Wondering how that'll look on our 4R's..

I’m really hoping the 23 4runner is in fact a redesign and shares a lot in common with this because I would be all over it. I get it. We like reliable simple rigs that are turn key and mod friendly. It’s a Toyota though. If there ever is a car company I trust to get it right in terms of redesign without turning it into a walking repair bill it’s Toyota.

give me a White 23 4 runner pro with that same upgraded interior and same stylings as the Sequioa and I’ll be a happy happy camper.

    I wouldn't count on the 6th gen being a 2023 model year.

I don't disagree, it just depends on what it costs. It was hard enough spending $55k on a Pro. If the next one is $65-70 I'd have a hard time spending that.

According to his last interview with parts shortage they are out for 30days. And no ETA for repair time. When he ask if Toyota could take the car back and give him a new one Toyota denied it. According to his state if the car is in shop for more than 30 days it's qualified for lemon law. May be Tundra would be lemon?

According to "alex on autos" same issue was reported by LS500 with similar if not same 3.5 twin turbo engine.

I'm completely out of interest for Tundra and Sequoia now. Needless to say if they decide to have a Turbo engine for 4runner- no thank you..

I noticed the similarities with the Sienna as well, and I also think it basically looks like a Highlander XL from the A pillar back.

Even so, I think it's a very handsome vehicle. I still think the Yukon/Tahoe has a nicer looking interior though.

I'm starting to wonder about this. Maybe they're keeping it super secret so that people will keep buying the 5th gen. Or, maybe they just don't have anything yet. :notsure:

But I’m not one to speculate I busted my a$$ last year and only made bout $2,300. And I guess they have to be big and bulky for fat Americans.

I think Sony doesn’t like giving out info too early but they took a lot of flak with waiting so long on the Tundra. That’s why the Sequoia was a bit earlier. It’s probably more for the reason that they don’t want to sabotage the current gen sales. I’m guessing Sequoia wasn’t selling well so it’s less of a worry.

This is exactly what I was thinking as well!

Regardless, it seems like they did a good job with both redesigns. Hopefully the 4Runner manages to keep the trend going!

Well the 2022 Tundra was first leaked in June 2021 I believe and then released in December. The Seqouia was leaked this month for an expected release this summer so I would expect a leak of the new 4Runner sometime in June to August for a December release. Each separated by 6 months.
