Let's see what rack's people have on their 5G 4Runners, and how they have them kitted out. What lighting? What gear? What boxes, tents, awning, etc...

I have a Gobi rack but I am still working on how to get it kitted out and run the wires for all around lighting, and a future RTT and awning...

Let's see what you've got, and hear about how you did it, and/or if you would do things differently if you had the chance!

I am running a Gobi rack as well. I have to still install my rear lights but I will get around to it sooner or later. Anyways I have a vault 700 for recovery gear storage and a Ironman awning.

I used to have an LFD rack but it leaked on my driver front, user error I'm sure. I was very careful with silicone coverage but it leaked regardless, should have went with butyl tape. Still I don't like how the OEM bolts are sitting exposed to the elements though, surely the rubber gaskets will break down over time from UV exposure so I put the OEM roof rack back. Those Toyota engineers were on to something after all from decades of experience LOL

Here it is now, a Yakima DoubleHaul fly rod vault on pass side, and Yakima Mighty Mounts 23H on the other side in case I need to mount my ARB awning or extra rotopax.

Yeah, that’s a big reason I hesitate on whether I want an aftermarket roof rack that ditches the stock rails/mounts. If you look carefully at the design of the factory mounting, the bolts are not solely responsible for keeping water out from the holes. The plastic mount and cover are essentially a roofing system for the bolts, I bet they never actually see water. Even if water gets under the cover, there is a series of dams in there that keep water from sloshing onto the bolts. It’s like a multi-pronged approach, pretty clever. Sherpa pays attention to the mounting bolts and put some thought into keeping water ingress at bay, but the bolts are still responsible.

Im kinda thinking of making one on my own that will use the factory rails/mounts. They are plastic, but if they break, hopefully it means something on the 4runner didnt.

You never see ARB racks!!! Ive been wondering about those. id love to see some pics from different angles and also of the mounts if you get a chance.

    Did this require any drilling?

I have a Gobi no-rise. Love it. Wouldn't change a thing. I use it for hauling all the shit I can't fit in the cab during trips, surfboards, and wood.

dang, a good roof rack makes this as almost as convenient as just having a truck with a full size bed.

Drilling was required ending up having to drill a total of 12 holes for all the Gamiviti Tower channels. I epoxied and sealed the river nuts in when I installed it and no leaks so far.

Same rack was previously installed on my old 4th Gen though I just bolted it with U-bolts to the factory rack which seemed to work fine. I’ll try and grab some pictures of the setup tomorrow on my 5th gen

@exporunner You think those towers could use the factory mounting pattern? And then maybe using some towers for the front that arent bolted in, kinda like the front Gobi feet that just rest in the rain gutter with two-sided tape?

Thanks! I see light bars a lot so I decided to go old school and do the round lights to mix it up

Something to consider before putting lights up there is to check out beam pattern. Anything roof mounted will glare off the hood pretty bad. Try to get as direct as a beam if mounting above the windshield.
