Curious if anyone has seen anything like this, and can offer any insight.

Got about 3k miles on the Nitto's that came on my TRD Pro.

When I first noticed, I thought they were scrapes/gouges - but they aren't. They're not deep, it's almost like the very top layer of rubber is peeling.

I haven't done any off-roading yet, haven't scraped any curbs or anything of that nature.

Pics are from drivers side front and rear. Nothing on the passenger side.

    Any ideas?

It certainly looks like scraping of some sort. Front and rear tires on the driver side both have these marks? They seem to be all parallel in each pic. If they are all parallel, and you're sure you didn't roll up against something, maybe someone did it in a parking lot while maneuvering a load of some sort into their vehicle, or moving it past yours. Or drove past in a parking lot (or on the road if you ever park there) with some trim piece sticking out on their jalopy. If you orient your tires properly, can you line up the marks on the front tire with those on the rear by positioning the marks horizontally? If so, I think something went by your 4Runner and did this. But I don't think it's peeling.

I don’t think it’s from the truck since the straps go around the tread, not the side wall (see pic).

You all are probably right looks more like some kind of minor damage, the more I look up close. And that they are almost parallel.

I was a bit concerned they might be defective.

oh well, hopefully it doesn’t affect the life or performance.

I laugh at this a little because the scratch is so tiny it should not have any impact on the tire. Take it out on the trail and if you put the 4Runner through its paces you will have more than that scratch on your tires and if you take a chunk out then I would be wondering if the tire would be okay. I believe these tires are 3 ply so you should totally be okay.

As far as I know only limited no of A/T tires like KO2 Load E has 3 ply side wall. Def not these have 3ply wall.
