My thoughts exactly. If one can get a 2022 Pro at MSRP now, there's no way on earth they would lose. Once the 6th gens come out ((if ever, it seems), I bet the 5th gen Pros will be highly desired and bring a premium price IMO.

I’ve owned a few tacoma’s and switched to a 4runner once kids came along. I’ve also owned a couple F150’s. If I truly needed a truck with legroom for kids, I’d get a Tundra. If I can make it by with an SUV, 4runner without question. Overall it comes down to Toyota reliability, and they hold their value despite new generations coming out one day.

I totally agree. I think 5th Gen value will go up when the 6th comes out

So you spend 55-60k on an off road vehicle and complain about gas mileage. Seriously. ?
Let’s do some math. Let’s say you drive 15k a year and get 15 mpg. If gas is 4 bucks a gallon that’ 4000 dollars in gas. If your mini van replacement gets 23.5 mpg that’s 2552 dollars. Less than 1500 dollars to drive a 4runner per year.
    Again seriously. ?

And not just the "fun / cool" factor. The future re-sale value and overall dependability of the 4Runner should far outweigh the difference in fuel costs.

This is great info since you were in my situation. Why do you say keep the Taco with a kid? When I put the rear facing car seat on pass side, nobody can sit in the front seat, if it's in the middle, front seats are good but you can't sit anyone else in the back, not enough hip/shoulder room.

How much worse was your gas mileage with the 4runner as compared to the Taco? 1-2mpgs worse? We eventually plan to have a second kid, my mind set of switching from Taco to SUV now is that I can get $5k more for my Taco than what I paid for it last year and I can get a new 4runner at MSRP and normally dealers by me never offered more than a $500 discount from MSRP before the current market so if there ever was a time to make the switch it would be now.

I agree with the market is good for those with “wanted” trades, same reason we are looking for a new runner.

i never had an issue with a rear facing seat and my girlfriend at the time was 5’10”. Not a lot of space for her, but we didn’t take the truck often, so if it’s a family vehicle, I could see it being an issue.

I was averaging 22-24 MPG with the Tacoma, I’m around 18-20 with the 4Runner on the same drive to and from work.

The Tacoma felt way more “peppy” to me. Than the 4 runner does. This poor little girl does not want to go unless you are mean to it and keep the gas peddle smashed down, but at that point, I’m getting 16MPG.

I was able to get $3k more for my truck than I bought it for and I had 90k miles on it. If you can get the 4Runner at MSRP, I could see it being worth it. Especially if you are having a second child. The room is REALLY nice.

I personally liked my Tacoma more, but overall I am happy with my decision. I can hold all my gear with no issues, and I have a more capable vehicle (Tacoma was 2WD). It may just take time for me. I hated the Tacoma when I bought it as well coming from an M3, but ended up loving it in the end. I imagine the 4Runner will be the same.

Make sure to post pics if you get one!!

I like the seating on the 4 runner seems more up right position than the Taco felt more sitting on the floor , my 2017 was a 4 cyl so it was gut less even with 6 speed , had weird problems I was happy to see it go , it was totaled when someone hit me .
I got my 2022 Pro un expected my dealer had one come in and no one claimed it , I think some one ordered it because it was not a stripped model , has rear slide deck , center console lock box gun safe , front camera and few things .
I paid MSRP and 600 bucks in processing fees .
    The 4runner seems to be a solid SUV , its my 3rd 4runner I have owned , I still own a 2020 LC200 which is a tank and I have owned a few land cruiser LC 200’s
Every one says how much better the LC 200 is , I don’t see it better , more refined and thats kind of a oxymoron for me because a land cruiser is suppose to be basic like a 4runner not touch screen control everything , should have manual 4x4 lever , locking axles .
The 200 has gone far away from its heritage .
The 4runner is a way better value for your buck IMO .

Safety and reliability first for the fam, so I would get 4runner now, if you can find one acceptable for your budget. Good luck.

I know where you are coming from, I am a father of two children ages 13 months and 2 1/2 yrs of age. I have a 4 runner lifted, 14 mpg. This is the family car. You want the truth? Buy another car. Why? you have to surrender your car to the kids because of the car seat(s) and stroller. If you and your boys plan a trip or you need to go somewhere for the day or the weekend you have to take it all out. Also dont forget you have to take out spare diapers, wipes, changing pad, etc. These items are all in a trunk organizer. Believe me sounds simple, but we age fellas. If you do this over and over again it gets annoying. Then when you get back you have to put it back correctly.

Carseats: Nuna Rava and a Nuna pipa. Rear left passenger Rear right passenger center seat is for baby jackets little baby coolers etc. 150 pound person could fit barely.
Stroller: UppaBaby Vista with a 2nd seat "Rumble Seat" left side stacked on top of each other.

Fridge Dometic 55im w /DFG slide on rightside of trunk.

I measured this perfectly to fit all of this before i bought the rig, stroller, and fridge.

all this and I should have bought a Sequoia or trade in the sedan for a, i hate to say it, Sien**.

when you are a parent its not about power so much, its about SPACE!

You wont have space in your car, your Garage, and your house for anything. LOL

I was raised by immigrant parents more adept to throwing us in a Russian Gulag over daycare so its hard for me to bend over and go Sie*** when my brother and I slid around the bench seat of a 2 door Isuzu Trooper II (Yes, Japan used to export very fine and capable off roaders in the 80's lol)

That said, if I did have kids id probably be happy with the current Highlander my wife had now and try to keep some self-dignity. But then again, I dont have kids and dont know anything.... this is all wishful thinking I guess :bananadead:

Get a Chevy Suburban! Best big family vehicle out there. Bought a new 2002 Z71 Suburban when our first born was one year old. $36,000, 0% interest, no money down, $1,000 per month for three years - almost as much as our mortgage payment back then. 20 Years and 238,000 miles later it's my three boys beater hunting and fishing truck. Still runs well and aside from some rust, still looks good too! Run her til she drops at this point! Big ole beast with plenty of space and a tank like mindset to protect your young family! No regrets!

One winter we had a rare 24" snowstorm here in Maryland and my 2006 Jeep LJ Rubicon struggled because it was too light. That Suburban just plowed thru that snow like it was nothing!

It's a magnetic gray metallic with almost 20k miles. It probably won't be worth it for me money wise because a used 4runner is worth more than a new one and I can get a new TRD Pro at MSRP, just waiting on the one I reserved to come in. Vroom offered me $49k for the Taco and the 4runner I "ordered" (or the one the dealer asked Toyota for) is $54k so I'm only going to pay $5k and go from a 2020 with 20k mi to a 2022 with no miles (which is nuts because that the difference in price of a 2022 Tacoma vs 4 runner). If I traded with you, you'd probably want more than $5k and I'd be driving something that's 2 years old vs brand new.

But just out of curiosity, what color is yours, how many miles, and where are you located lol?

GM products just plan old suck these days and would not buy a GM product these days , I just sold / traded a 2019 GMC 3500 SRW Denali , truck could hold a 1 ton and more but all the the little stupid stuff breaking or falling off and having to glue moldings , clips … just crappy parts supplier . the day I bought the GMC had a rear headache rack with lights , I was installing harness under side all the plastic tabs to zip tie to hold the factory harness were all off the frame … some junk supplier , would have thought 3m tabs …
That truck served it purpose , I hauled a couple 100 thousand pounds of dirt and rocks , 3yrs later I got 12k more than I paid for the truck . I would not buy another GM product again .

That is terrible. I really wish that was not the case. I remember sitting in a 2015 Silverado High Country and thought it was an amazing truck. To this day Ive only ever owned Japanese/German vehicles. One day holing GM will get its crap together.

I went from a 2018 TRD Pro Tacoma to 2020 TRD Pro 4Runner and The 4Runner Power is way better than the Tacoma by a long shot Gas mileage will depend on how you drive and what Mods you do it is not the Best out there but really not that bad considering it is a full chassis SUV the big issue with the Broncos are now showing up since it is Not a long term tested and improved on design where the 4Runner ahh yes as any mechanical item does have somethings that could be better however for the most it is a very reliable rig.
Even if they do come out with and "new" generation 4Runner unless they sell at a crazy low price like less than 30K all the current one should not see a Hugh price drop.

It’s amazing how much the 4L is a better engine than the 3.5. Even in the much heavier 4Runner.

New bronco looks cool but never buy the first year of anything , My buddy has one , has UCA and LCA problems there made of aluminum .
The 4 runner pro or even TRD off-road is the Best Buy for your buck if you want a vehicle right out of the box with little to no problems .
    I’m back in a pro , last 4runner was a 2018 TRD off-road pretty loaded and I only paid 40k ish .
The new 2020 Pro which is not a stripped model was 56k , is a dramatic increase , my dealer does not mark up MSRP , 56k and $600 bucks in fees was not to bad , I traded in a vehicle that was worth far more than the 56k so they cut me a check and gave me the 4runner .
Was a good deal because I actually made money owning the other truck 3 yrs and using the crap out of it and I got 12k over my purchase price and still retained the tax credit so no tax on the new one .
    That was my deal

You could easily sell yours for at or above MSRP of a new one and buy a brand new Tacoma TRD Pro and have enough left over to cover tax, title, and fees if you can get one at MSRP by you. May just have to wait a bit.

And why would anyone who owns a 4Runner want to take a big step down in comfort, Performance (yes the 4runner performs better than the Taco) and useable space for a Tacoma? Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the Tacoma it was just a Gutless underpowered awesome looking pickup that could not pull the Boat as good as I needed the 4.0 in the 4Runner VS the 3.5 in the Tacoma is night and day difference.

I love this generation Suburban! This is what I really want, sooner or later I'll start looking for a clean one. I belong to multiple Suburban groups, and there are plenty of them with 200, 300k + on them. They definitely do last. I like the looks of the later-model Suburbans as well, but this gmt800 generation is the last one without any of the displacement on demand or other problematic engine technology. Basic 5.3L motor is great, and if it doesn't make enough power for you there is a whole aftermarket full of head/cam packages that can make big power.

Is much as I like the size of my 4Runner for just me, throw a couple people, a couple dogs and some gear in there and it gets small real fast.

the Tacoma is somewhat gutless. But if you put it in etc. and d4 it’s not that bad towing. I’ve towed skid steers, concrete and various other things close or at max tow capacity and didn’t have any issues. Going uphill you’d need to be in the slow lane though. 76B5D42D-3502-49BE-B010-160F1DE81765.jpg

Yeah forgot to mention that option was not available it was a Manual 6 Speed and the fishing location are all up mountain roads so when a guy passed me on the right with a freaking human powered bicycle heading up a long long steep grade that is when I had it. OK yes the truck was loaded with roof top tent and camping gear for a week long run.
