Not a Wrangler killer though. Or maybe? Toyota needs to come up with a Bronco killer of their own.

This is the bad boy Bronco, not the crossover one.

Yeah they have some good technology in the bronco. Things I like that I would want to see are…
    • Lockers all around for all 4x4 trims (or at least an option)
    • Turn assist for trails
    • Cameras all around. Capability to go to 35” tires stock.

I think ToMoCo could benefit from reintroducing in America, the legendary FJ-40, FJ-45 P/U and FJ-45 Wagon.
With a more than adequate, high torque, low RPM V-8. And not some high strung turbo'ed half-pint motor.

And equip it with the simple and reliable manual transmission coupled to an at least, 4:1 T/C. Or an expensive option of a multi speed auto, if you wish.

My '03 TJ has a manual 5 sp, Atlas II w/5:1 T/C. It's stupid slow but, so bitchin to crawl with. Just let the clutch out and go. No bumping or brake checking to get over rocks.

Solid axles F/R, with electric or air actuated lockers. And disc brakes.

And it should also be with some of the basic safety features like (but not limited to), seatbelts, heater/AC, front wipers only, basic radio w/weather stations.
Electric windows and door locks are ok but not necessary.

Other interior features would include, cup holders, grab bars and storage cubbies. And headrests that you can actually lean your head against.
And keep the spare tire outside because tires stink.

And a major thing for me is, do away with all the damn nanny button crap.

LET ME DRIVE THE DAMN THING.

    Some days I wish I still had my old 40 & 45 P/U.

Sorry guys, I think my blood sugar is getting too low.
    Back to reality.

Oh and about that 4th gen bunko, Ford would benefit from bringing the EB back too.

Would love to see a two door 4Runner. Would have better approach and departure angles and IMO, would look pretty cool.
    Reminds me of my '86.

The 2 door looks nice. The 4 doors not as much. Not going to be a Wrangler killer with that IFS setup. From what I read from some of the comparison videos it didn't really have much of an advantage over the 4Runner even.

A 2 door 4runner would be a cool option. Maybe a shorter wheelbase and removable back-seats. A panaramic moon roof or removable top would be cool as well.

A V8 is never going in a 4Runner again, so let's quit beating a dead horse. The (alleged) upcoming turbo 4-cylinder makes more torque at a lower RPM than the current 4.0 for those who have doubts.

And that's after you ordered it, waited for it, and then it shows up at the dealership and they try to tack on an extra 10 or $20,000

The new Bronco is to older Bronco owners what the JL is to early Jeep owners...the only game in town if you want to say you would like a new vehicle that still says their preferred brand. Most prefer what were originally designed as, and they still have and are trying to keep going after decades of ownership.

In my 30 years of Jeep ownership, from CJ to JK, it is generally thought that the TJ was the last 'true' Jeep. It had enough improvements, i.e. coil springs, EFI, factory lockers, just-right wheelbase, to be the best it could be. The JK introduced drive-by-wire, TPMS, etc., which, while working ok, just kept adding failure points. The JL, with all the electronic driving/safety/security nannies and an infotainment screen the size of a small TV set, is a techster's dream, but not so the true Jeep owner's. I imagine the Bronco is in the same category.

This new Bronco has insane amount of tech. Not for my taste. I like the 5th gen 4Runner.

Well, I will have to check with my new friend who just got a Area 51 edition. Last car show it had some green electrical tape around one of the engine hoses. Not sure what it was about.

I just rode in a hundred thousand dollar Ford last week. And it didn’t have auto-dimming high beams. Funny, last Camry I rented has them. It was a great feature.

I drove the manual through an off course trail, and it’s really easy to drive. That crawl gear drives like an automatic…don’t have to feather the clutch at all. It’s almost impossible to stall. But after driving it, I went and bought a 4Runner instead. Overall the 4Runner works better for our family…doing long road trips to National Parks and light dirt road trails. I would have loved a 4Runner in a manual transmission tho.

I believe Ford did it to “trick” the less educated and knowledgeable of what they were seeking. They thought they got a good deal and then realized they had been screwed over and got the wannabe bronco.
I honestly feel bad for those people that didn’t know. Who knows what the sale guy told them. While the real bronco will probably hold a good value the remainder of the lower end models are probably worth nothing now.

The Bronco is pretty dang good for an IFS vehicle and the ability to put 35+ tires on it makes it desirable if you don’t want the rough ride from a Solid axle wrangler and don’t want to chop up a 4R to get 35” on it.

    https://youtu.be/ZaX9DlurrBk

I’m purely talking about off roading. Not Ford reliability or their production issues.

Toyota is also screwing people with their Rav4 TRD Offroad. But Thank God they're not calling it a 4Runner sport or something. While Ford is doing just that. There is nothing Bronco about the Bronco sport.

It is very evil smart of Ford, Bronco sport shares the platform with the Escape, so cheap to produce. That platform is also used in their other vehicles, a whole bunch of them actually.

My brother has a bronco sport. One of the first release editions. It’s not a bad vehicle, but certainly not as capable as it’s big brother.

He didn’t need the space of the larger model. And if we’re being honest with ourselves, it’ll handle what 98% of people throw at it, despite being on the Escape platform.

And that ain't bad. It's not something you'd take to an offroad park, but winter weather or going camping, it'll get the job done for most people.

I don’t remember to be honest. He hasn’t had much of an opportunity to take it off the pavement yet. He’ll never go crawling so that’s a moot point. Just camping, skiing, etc.
