Im not a big fan of chrome.... And a "Blacked Out" ride has been done so many times is now just white noise IMO (pun intended)...

So when I decided I want to change my badges, I wanted them to match the color of my wheels. Its a Gunmetal/ Titanium silver which is one of the main reasons I got them in the first place. Silver(ish) but not chrome and not dark enough to fall in the crowd of "black out."

But here was my issue... The wheel manufacturer, a high quality and respectable company, would not give me a color code, the paint company so I could match the color. What I got from them was "its proprietary information" and it was suggested that I try and match it as best I can...

Not bagging on the company, just thinking to myself... Are color codes really that secretive on car wheels?

But 4 cans of spary paint later... I think I did pretty good!
Now just need to let em dry and get them applied. We will see what it looks like this weekend.

That is a really good idea. Can you share some pics of full 4R when everything is back on?

For the record, any automotive supply place should be able to scan the paint on the rim and put the right color in cans for you if you run into something like this in the future. Now go buy your LS's pizza :)

The good news is, even if they don't match exactly, you got them so close that no one would be able to tell, seeing as they mount far enough away from the wheels. Nice job.

My LS's have a hard time ordering screws, let alone finding the right paint... Tacamo supply is horrible.

But I found a couple places that could do color matching like you said... But I would have had to remove the wheel and roll it into the store:muscleflexing:

the scanner is portable they sound lazy. My guy in Chesapeake would go out to the car. Thell your LS's to learn what a IPB is and how to use FEDLOG. This is what happens when they get rid of AK's AK1(AW/SW)

Do you have any pics of the front and back? I’d like to see how those turned out. The sides look good. I’ve been thinking about doing mine to match my wheels.

I know it seems petty, but there must be a reason they are calling their paint codes "proprietary". I work with proprietary products that utilize proprietary ingredients every day. We use a number of ways to bring a product to market.

Our R&D creates products based on new ingredient technology (maximizing synergistic values) that often times we develop, trademark, patent and copyright.

When we create flavoring systems, we use small focus groups for feedback.

We utilize small athlete focus groups to get feedback on a myriad of things to justify a products final outcome.

All of these things cost us lots of money and are lumped into developing the final pricing for our products. If we told everyone what we do, how we do it, how we dose it... whats to stop them from buying the same ingredients, making their own and undercutting us becasue they don't ahve the up front R&D costs. I'm guessing they are doing something similar to develop "proprietary" colors.
