When I get my first deer, I will clean its gut. And then roast it on fire with its skin.

I recommend you take the Washington state Hunter Safety course. It's 2 part course. The 1st part is online and the 2nd part is done in person / hands on. It's required for those that were born after 1972 in WA in order to get a hunting license.
    https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/requirements

    Here is the online portion:
    https://www.hunter-ed.com/washington/

I took the same course for Missouri about 6 years ago. I have a house on 10 acres of land and didn't need the course to hunt my own land, at the time. To hunt on public land I needed the course. If nothing else, for me, it was a good refresher.

I was taught to shoot / hunt by a family friend when I was 13. My father had a pistol for home defense / self defense but didn't hunt. He passed away when I was 12. A family friend of ours, Ron, stored my Dad's Colt Series 70 Government Model 45 acp (AKA a 1911 pistol) for me till I was of legal age to possess it in Illinois (age 21). Plus he took me shooting and small game hunting.

Regarding firearms, deer rifles etc. There's no need to go buy a $6000 rifle for your 1st rifle. Savage makes some nice, accurate bolt action rifles that can be had for $300 to $1000. I have 2 Savage bolt action rifle. Since I'm left handed both are left handed rifles.

I have a Savage Axis bolt action rifle that came with a scope similar to this one that I hunted with this past rifle season for deer. These Axis models run about $350 at your local Bass Pro type of store.

It's always a good idea as a first time shooter to start out with a small caliber rifle/pistol or revolver. After you get used to proper handling and accurate shooting, then move up to larger calibers.
Start with .22's which have very little recoil.
You don't want to ruin your first time experience because of recoil anxiety.
Heck, I have a 500 mag that I don't even shoot anymore because of the punishment it puts on the wrist.
Hope you come to enjoy the shooting sports. Just be smart. Get educated and move slowly. I started at 12 years old and I'm still learning.
I might add that if you do not want to own a gun, then don't even get started. To be safe and accurate with ANY firearm requires a lot of practice which you cannot easily do without ownership.

All rifles can shoot up to and beyond 1000 yards. Will every rifle hit target? Probably not. For long range shooting as you mentioned 1/2 mile to a mile, you’ll need time behind the bench, a good high powered rifle scope (not called fancy gadgets :D) and get used to your rifle (trigger, scope, etc). Shooting long range you’ll most likely need to load your own custom loads tailored to your rifles liking. Each barrel has different twist rates and they like certain weight/grain projectiles. You can use off the shelf factory rounds but it won’t be accurate to your specific rifle. There’s so much more that goes into long range shooting.

I hunt and I load my own rounds (both pistol and rifle rounds) and I still don’t consider myself a pro. Not even close. Can I hit targets at 500 yards? Yes, but hitting a target sitting down on a steady bench rest is a completely different game when out in the woods hunting deer.
