    Hello all,
I just recently purchased my 2018 4Runner Offroad and had a question about the LED lights. I tried to search first for recommendations, but I'm wanting to replace the headlights right away. The stock halogens aren't very bright, but the internet contains many brands of LED headlights for the 4Runner. I was just reaching out to see what everybody seems to like the most. I've seen some of you like the HID conversion, but it appears the LEDs look pretty nice as well and very easy.

Thank you all for your recommendations, I appreciate it!

    Matt

If you have the halogen projectors a decent HID kit will work fine. 4300 or 5000k CN light bulbs and a decent ballast. This is what i have in the wifes 14 since new and works great. Just have to drill a 1” hole through dust cover and secure ballasts.

    REALLY?

OP, hopefully you'll find that most of us will provide you a more mature response.

Mature response? It was a legit response if you look you will find why.
Guess you are on board with blinding on coming vehicles. And if you don't realize by now that throwing LEDs or HIDS in a halogen housing is not the way to go get out from under your rock.

    Not so much. J
That was NOT a mature response. Just like you, I'm a new member here. If that's the best response you got from my question, just don't even bother to reply because I could go without a dumbass answer. I simply asked what are the best LED lights for a 4Runner. I said nothing at all about crawling out of a rock or anything. Now, please be gone.

    Btw, thanks @Sandbuster. =)

I'll reply where I want and where I want. You can ignore me if you get that butt hurt online.

Again retrofit kit. Don't just change the bulbs and be an ass.

I think what @Dillusion is saying is that drop-in LED bulbs are generally not a good option. They don't always focus properly and can throw light too high, causing issues for oncoming traffic.

The best LED upgrade is a complete new headlight assembly.

Otherwise, the custom H9 upgrade is an option.

I just run Osram Nightbreakers for low beams and high beams and I'm pretty happy with them.

    This

OP, in general simply dropping in an LED bulb in the halogen projector won't give you great results. Most LED bulbs don't sit well or properly focus the light in the housing; Poor distance, too much foreground lighting, blinding traffic, etc.

Having said that, there are a few decent bulbs out there that do a good job. The 3 that Dabigono posted are probably the best options out there right now. They're on the pricey side of bulbs but don't be fooled but the cheaper ones you come across on Amazon and such. Otherwise the H9 bulb conversion is the best bang for buck halogen upgrade you can do.

Doing a complete HID / LED projector retrofit to your stock housings, or going with complete assemblies like the OEM LED or Morimoto Gen2 housings, will give you the best results but also be the most expensive.

So far the best I've used is GTR Ultra2 LEDs. They look same as 35w HIDs I used before. I didn't like the wire mess with HID and having to drill holes on the dust cap.

I wasn't interested in running H9 with the trouble of cutting the tabs to fit in H11 housing. I'm also not liking the extra current draw with H9s than it's designed for. Why I prefer HID with less current draw even than stock halogen and LED been the least current draw. That saving of less current draw give me some confidence (theoretically) of running some extra lights.

I have tested some less costly LED bulb options as well and still a big improvement. I really don't care about LED/ HID hate. As long as you have the cutoff line on a wall or garage door and have aimed your lights correctly regardless Halogen/ LED/ HID you are good. Some people just don't know how to drive at night. Humans with better brain capacity don't stare at on coming headlights like animals..:)

This is one of the less expensive ones I've tried-

Let’s not re-invent the wheel. There are thousands of posts already in this forum and other forums about upgrading the 5th Gen headlights.

Some people insert bulbs into their headlights, turn them on, take photos, compare them visually, and claim to have “tested” them. That’s not a scientific test. It’s more of a demonstration. A test of hardware like headlights requires controlled conditions of environment and inputs, and specific output results to be measured with instruments. Although, this fellow has done an admirable job taking good comparison photos to visually demonstrate the difference between decent and bad bulbs: There’s only one person I’ve found who bothers to do this scientifically, and he posts in a Tacoma forum. Here’s his thread on the low beam projectors that are in the pre-2020 4Runner. It’s long but full of great information:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-hid-vs-led-vs-halogen-h11-projector-headlights.589465/

    TLDR version:
For $$$$: Best performance so far, OEM 2021 4Runner headlights (LED low beam / halogen high beam). And convert the halogen bulb to a 9011.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ctor-headlights.589465/page-252#post-26224347

    For a little $:
Do the halogen H9 and 9011 bulb conversions.

Absolutely agree with this. ^^^^ In fact the guy in Tacoma World that he mentions is a friend of mine. (Fun Fact: The 5th gen LED T4R headlights that he tested were actually a set that I loaned him.) Crashnburn80 does a stellar job of conducting and publishing comprehensive and unbiased tests of various lighting products and systems. You won't find that in the Headlight Revolution videos that so many people seem to believe. (Another Fun Fact: All of the products that "win" their comparisons are brands owned by their parent company. Hmmm.)

Having had the SS3 Pros in selective yellow, maybe I can offer a reason for folks flashing you. The Pro has a taller and less well-defined beam pattern than the Sport or Max. (I moved up to the Max.) So even if your Pros are properly aimed, there is more up light in the pattern and some folks find this objectionable. Even though the Max model is more powerful, I actually hardly ever get flashed now.
