WHY do you love your 4Runner?

1. It's a classic. You know exactly what you are getting, and it will deliver exactly what it promises.
2. The body on frame makes it one of the best options for off-roading.
3. Japanese precision and reliability, it can be your last car.
4. That front grill is aggressive and the rest of the industry is just now catching up.
5. I don't have the white, but the front grill of the white looks very much like a stormtrooper.
6. It's retro in nearly all of the right ways. I have an '18 and the head is grossly outdated, but you put up with that because everything else is unmatched.
7. Mods. Such an extensive ecosystem of mods.
8. It just looks like fun. You see one and you imagine all of the adventures that rig has seen.
9. Community. Maybe Jeep is close, but there are few communities like this one, and it proves the 4R has stood the test of time.
10. Resale value. 4Runner's always have strong demand. It has captured the imagination.

So many things…for me, the biggest things I love are.

-go anywhere

-aftermarket options

-I still turn back to look at it. I also forget my cellphone in it a lot as well, so I have to turn back to get it.

-comfortable, simple interior, ergonomic. I spent 5hours in it today, wanted to keep driving

-simple to work on and maintain.

-After hanging up my helmet and walking away from motorcycles, I wanted to get a vehicle that I could have fun in. With all the off road fun Ive had so far, this pretty much covers that base.

It does everything well. Looks good, comfortable, handles a trail well, reliable, roomy, practical, some cool factor, holds it's value, retractable rear window, great road trip vehicle. If I could only have one vehicle, it would be a 4runner.

 

It is more reliable then a Land Rover

I value reliability and quality over some other considerations. Yes, the engine and transmission are ancient but to me that's a good thing. The reliability and longevity of the 4.0 V6 is legendary. I placed a deposit on a '22 SR5 a few weeks ago. My other top contender was the new Ford Bronco. The Bronco has some awesome new tech, modern turbo drivetrains, and fantastic heritage. I don't trust turbo engines and there have been many reports of the new 2.7 V6 failing and needing replacement. Not to mention the long wait time, hardtop issues, and other electronic gremlins. Don't really see those issues with the 4Runner. That and for a modern turbocharged engines, the gas mileage isn't much better than the "ancient" Toyota engine. I plan to keep my next SUV for many years and need to be able to depend on it. For that reason, I went with the 4Runner.

 

I haven’t seen this said yet (might have missed it) the 5th Gen has been around for a while. Not much (if anything) has drastically changed the past 10 years with the drivetrain. So if my motor mysteriously blows up or transmission mysteriously goes out I am hopeful I can find one over the past 10 years that will give me many more years of good service. Plus it is easy finding parts with aftermarket support and on top of it the amount of 4Runners on the road still.

Get a 4Runner and it will last you a long time. Hard to say it is an investment but I kinda say it is when it is as reliable as it is. Won’t spend money like you would on other cars with it in the shop.

 

I need a DD which I could mod endlessly. I am too old and too fat for a civic. I also needed an suv which will last me 20 years.

 

in my eyes its the best looking suv out there. timeless design.

 

Bulletproof 4.0 V6 engine. I had it on my Tacoma which I had for 13 years and sold for about 70% what I paid with 160k miles on it.

the 4runner is more comfortable and can’t beat the roll down rear window and cargo area for my dog.

 

80,000 miles and counting, never been to a mechanic in its life for repairs. I've never owned a vehicle so low maintenance.

 

One thing I'm happy with is no start stop nonsense like almost every vehicle out there.

 

Yeah when I drive my fathers F150 that’s the first thing I turn off when I get inside of it. Its super annoying.

 

I have always, always loved them, but an SUV vs a pickup just has not always been practical for me, so I have usually driven trucks. My first 4Runner was a 2007 SR5 to which I added a Toytec Ultimate kit and 285s (wish I still had it), currently I drive a 2012 SR5. It does everything I need it to do! I pull trailers, go rough places hunting, like to hit the beach a couple times a year, haul 2 dogs and a cat regularly. I pull up cedar stumps with it, tie it to rocks and downed trees to move them, fill it with firewood, lumber, harvested big game animals, etc. I recently hauled thirty-seven 60 lb sacks of cement in it (4 trips!) to pour a slab for my new smoker. My first post on the new member thread I called my 4Runner “my truck” and someone commented that they didn’t know if a 4Runner is a truck. Haha I guess it is all in how you use it. Mine is most definitely a truck. They are tough trucks and they are really easy to work on. It will perform exceptionally doing anything you rig it to do; it’s a Toyota!

I really wanted a 22' Tahoe Z71/Yukon AT4 specifically for the E-LSD BUT you have to get the WHOLE package and that included the auto-level/air suspension. I felt it was just another thing to break and I wouldn't want that to go out when I'm off the beaten path. Not to mention every dealership I spoke with told me that were doing market adjustments $10k-15k over MSRP which put me WAY over my price range.

 

I like sitting up high, and I like to see the hood in the vehicles I drive.
I love the roll-down rear window; my neighbor whats to know why her fancy Volvo SUV does not do that, lol.
I like the ride, I have seen journalists ding it for the ride, but it is more comfortable than my 18 Civic I bought when I thought I would be driving 100 miles a day to work. Civic looked neat, but I hated being in such a tiny car in traffic. 44mpg does not help you if you are dead.
I can set the heated seats, and they are on if I remote start the 4runner.
I love the TRD PRO look and my Lime Rush color. (I know some do not like it, but green is my fav color)
I like the built-in Nav and prefer it over android auto.
I love the storage space. I rarely have other people in my vehicles, but I think it has plenty of room for passengers.
I think it has plenty of tech you are supposed to be driving, not playing with gadgets. (I am weird; I tend to not listen to music or the radio while driving)
I like the blind-spot monitoring on the mirrors.
I like that it is a true 4x4 and not AWD.
I like my pro exhaust; some say it drones, but it does not bother me at all.
I like its reliability; poor reliability is why I did not buy a Rubicon or Bronco. I did not want to be doing repairs all the time or feel the need to trade it in.
So far, everyone except my wife likes it, and that means she will not bug me to drive it and take it over. (she gets a rav4 later this year.)
I also like that people tend to give me the right of way on the road. (I still have had idiots pull out right in front of me, but that's why I like having some mass and a boxed frame.)
The MPG is a bit of a sore spot; however, I only drove 1800 miles last year, so it is a non-issue.
It fits in my garage just barely but it fits.

 

When my Tacoma was totaled, I didn't know exactly what to replace it with since I don't like many new vehicles. I wanted a full size truck and was set on a F150 but it didn't fit my current living situation. The only other option was the 4Runner. I love it because it drives really well, feels solid and the interior is comfortable. I can just get behind the wheel, crank tunes and drive on for as long as the gas tank lasts me.

 

Because it's more intense and macho looking than a Pathfinder and a Pilot.

In 1986, I bought a 1st Gen, IFS, 22RE Runner. With nothing more than a set of nerf bars, an Aussie Bull Bar front bumper, and Hella Fog & Driving lights, it took me from Virginia Beach to Ouray many times, and when I got there I could take on any trail I wanted.

Then I had kids, and a house, and aging parents... the Runner gave way to minivans...

Now I'm retired, and I have the time and lettuce to revive my love affair with Ouray and the San Juans. And finally, the Runner looks agressive and ready to conquer... unlike gens 2-4... too rounded and blah for me. Its still super capable off road, its still reliable, and it can be customized just how I want it.

And if I want to get out and pretend to be Lewis Hamilton, I'll get my tricked out MX-5 out of the garage, and go play!

 

So is a Chevy Cobalt. What's your point!?

I’m back with my 4th 4runner , I just picked it up last week my local dealer called me out of the blue , he knows I buy a lot of vehicles for regular use and toys .
They had a 2022 Pro on the truck heading to the dealer , MSRP and $600 fees , no markups .
I have a lot of vehicles , just sold / traded the wife’s 2019 200 LC but I still have my 2022 LC 200 Heritage are selling for stupid money .
The wife prefered driving the BMW over the LC 200 … go figure a chick thing , she did not like the touch screen was her biggest complaint about the 200 .
I like the simplicity of the 4runner , manual T case , 4.0 and power rear window are thumbs up for me .
