I am planning on buying tires in the next day or two and wanted to see what folks are running in a 275/70R17. I want this size as it's the biggest that I can fit on a stock 5th gen rim without cutting. I am not planning on lifting right away and hope to get away from the 265/70 size.

My uses will be as a DD and for hitting desert and mountain terrain 2-3 weekends per month. I have ran Nitto terra grapplers "E" on my last few trucks which worked great. Nitto doesn't make these in a 275/70R17 and it appears the size is limited in other brands as well. The choices that my local America's tires offers are a BFG KO2 in "E" or a Cooper A/T3 in "C" unless I have them special order me something in. I can get either of those for $930 installed. Also might look at the ST maxx again since I had those for a short time on my Tacoma. Any input is appreciated.

I use BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2. I love these tires. Great for daily driving. Not loud at all. Great for off-roading if you want to.

Thanks I wound up buying BFG KO2's "E" rated . They worked great in ice/snow in Mammoth last week and off road as well in the silt up there. I only lost 1-2 mpg on the road and around town it is about a 3 mpg loss.
I am very happy with these so far and they seem quieter than the stock dunlops.

Our truck came with 265/70/17 Goodyears. I just can't see where the extra 3/8" width of a 275 is worth worrying about. Is there any real advantage:crazy:? - Ted

Are you guys switching from standard load to E load tires hitting the rocky trails pretty hard? I'm just wondering because that is a lot of tire for a 4Runner.

I changed some lights, tires and tinted windows...mind blowing huh
I did on my taco to get the size I wanted, robbed too much power and mileage and made the ride kinda weird too over bumps in the road, I wont do that again

I had the same experience with a set of BFG KO2 E load 285's on my Tacoma. I disliked the ride and perceived loss of power. I'll be buying 285's or 275's for the 4Runner but will be sticking with SL or C load at the most.

E load. You can air down off-road and the extra reinforcement should help with rocks, not hurt right?

A lot of reviews indicate that the 275/70/R17 KO2's slip a lot on asphalt. I live in the Midwest and there is a lot of asphalt out here. Has anyone had this experience? I still have the original Dunlops on my 2015 4R but am considering the Cooper AT3 LT 285/65R17. I was thinking the 285 with the 65 profile would be a decent trade off on the side performance, gas mileage, etc. However, 90%+ is daily driving around town. Maybe that's too much tire for my purpose and region. Thoughts?
