Picking up my 4Runner Off Road* on Monday, decided to trade in my 2017 RS (loved the car but Ford is a nightmare to deal with).

Looking forward to a different world of fun!

Nice! Where’d you pick it up from? MSRP? And it’s either a TRD pro or TRD Off Road. There’s no such thing as a TRD Off Road pro.

If the dealer is on the up-and-up that shouldn't be the case. They know the allocation they have allotted for them and can very easily follow through accordingly. That is exactly what happened with me when I purchased my '21 Lunar Rock. The allocation/build was going in for a March build and I took delivery mother's day weekend (May). There was a slight delay at the time due to ships having issues at sea but otherwise it was all squared away. I paid straight MSRP and the mandatory taxes and such but no markup or "hidden" extras. The day it arrived I was in and out of my dealer in 15 minutes with my new pro. Couldn't have been a better experience... Guess to sum it up, just have faith, they aren't all shady.

11 weeks to the day, and I finally got an email from my salesman that they got allocation for my ORP! He said he doesn’t have an ETA yet but should in a few weeks. Early estimate would be sometime in January and I’m expecting late January based on other people’s experiences.

My Toyota guy has not gotten back to me with any kind of a solution yet and quite frankly, I’m over it. $15k markup on a pro after they took away my ‘21 LR Pro after I waited 3 months for it. Pretty sure I’m getting a Jeep Wrangler next Friday. Toyota has played me like a fiddle and lost a customer for sure. As long as I’m approved at the agreed upon terms, the Runner is being traded in and I’m moving on with my life. Bummed but honestly will be relieved once this is all over!

That is super lame and irritating. Dealerships can be great or terrible and unfortunately it seems most lean towards the latter. It is the dealership that's jerking you around too, not Toyota (semantics, I know).

The sad part is Toyota Corp should step up to their dealer and say let’s make it right for customer.

Any manufacturer should do that. That is why I stepped away from Ford. Dealer did work that came with Ford warranty but they balked at fixing the issue. I called corporate and had some contacts because my Dad worked there as well. They give you a nice dog and pony show but don’t pony up the cash to rectify the situation.

I am not the only one. Sadly now in my family nobody drives a Ford product after a few similar situations.

I am not suggesting Toyota is or is not different but I think they leave too much up to dealers and dealers can push a customer away from a product forever.

Agreed. I will be calling in a complaint to Toyota hq if this all plays out the way it’s headed for sure.

Good on you, the customer holds the cards, or at least that’s the way it was and should be. I had a Roof Top Tent company do me wrong, and I have now added them to the inform others when ever possible list. That company and Sony are companies that will not see a dime from me or anyone else I talk to.

Just an update on my search...So I just got a call from the dealer who I have been working with since June (that's when I put 1K down) on getting me a MGM Pro, and they said they didn't get any in there latest allocation. So I got my deposit back and started my own searching and calling...and within 2 days scored a MGM ORP with the Black wheel package, TRD Skid Plate, blackout emblem, moonroof...basically everything I was looking for in the Pro minus the upgraded audio and Fox shocks. Which is actually fine with me as a ORP was plan "B" and I could upgrade the suspension and audio myself anyway....and it was 10K less than any of the Pros I've seen listed. So all in all...a left handed Christmas miracle. The 4Runner is supposed to be delivered to the dealer in the next week.

One question I do have is on the spec sheet it lists the interior color as Black (Bamboo)...does anyone know what that actually means? Its kinda scary buying a car without actually "seeing" it in person...

Congrats! Just got my MGM ORP this week. It's black/dark inside and the headliner is gray. You can see the interior pics on Toyota's website. Can't take a pic at the moment.

You can call but they won’t care. They’ll just tell you that all dealerships are independently owned and operated.

One piece of advice call your state/local BBB and ask them who a contact is at that dealer. Then call that person directly and tell them the BBB referred you.

If needed you can always file a complaint with the BBB.

Most businesses don’t like a negative mark from the BBB :)

I ordered a TRD ORP in Army Green at Curry Toyota in Cortland Manor, NY at MSRP near the end of August. It has been 3 months and so far no allocations.

It was at MSRP for my Army Green ORP with Sunroof/KDSS package, but then there was about 4.5k in sales tax, then all my accessory options and a 125k mile extended warranty for 2.9k added on top. All the markup i saw was on the accessories, trd bronze wheels, trail running boards and trd exhaust blackout emblems were all marked up $100 more. So in all it was 47,393 MSRP + ~4.5k sales tax + 5,292 for accessories and extended warranty combined. So yeah it was up there, but eh I'm happy with my rig.

I put my deposit down Aug 12th, told it would be about 60-90 days when they put their orders in at the end of the month. Allocated in September, shipped 9/22, arrived in Portland around 10/16, landed at Dealer 11/4 and i picked it up on the 6th. So almost 90 days. The deposit just marks your spot in line for getting one built. Toyota cut global production by 40% in September and October (idk about nov to now), so i was relieved to know mine made the cut in Sept.

Also note that the 4runners arrive on Roll on/Roll off (RO/RO) ships, so they aren't really affected by the shipping mess which is affecting container ships. These ships have their own side of the ports for loading and unloading. Toyota port hands may still be overwhelmed by vehicle orders coming in and lack of personnel though, so if your accessories like wheels and exhaust aren't installed there, remind your dealer to do it when it arrives on the lot. I had to get the wheels, exhaust, overlays and running boards done at the dealer a couple weeks later. The port was only doing the front charge port and all weather floor mat installs.

No update yet. My guy is still working on the markup. I’m not sure exactly what he’s doing but he’s got until the car comes in to figure it out, it’s due to arrive at the end of the month. Stilllll waiting lol.

I wanted the KDSS, Premium Plus Package, and Moonroof. After some research wondering why it's taking so long for an allocation, and looking at the Toyota inventory website, I've found out that KDSS isn't on any vehicles in the tristate New York area. This is probably due to the limited inventory because there were some 2020 models here with it last year.

After more research on the Toyota website I've found out dealerships in Pennsylvania and Maryland get ORPs with KDSS. The ones in Maryland either tried to dodge my questions or they had a markup. I was able to find a dealership in Pennsylvania about 250 miles away from where I live that was transparent from the get-go and answered all my questions fully. I'll be placing my order with them when they open tomorrow and hopefully they get allocated the one I want soon. I wanted one before they salted all the roads so I can undercoat it but I may just go through a transportation company to deliver it to me to keep the underside clean.

I'll edit in the contact information once I am finished with the process.

Good luck! My whole journey took about 3.5 weeks…which to get 99% of what I wanted I feel like is a fluke/lucky based off what some people have documented on here.
