I’m hoping some of you have experience to share about a shaking and rattling front passenger seat. The shaking causes a lingering rattle over bumps until the seat stops shaking. I can stop the shaking by holding the seat back or having a passenger weigh it down. I’m not sure if the rattle is under the seat or in the frame. I can’t ID it though. I can reproduce it by banging on the seat back with my fist. Ideally I would like to stop the shaking but I’d settle for insulating the rattling part at this point. I vaguely remember reading about faulty rails/glides. I have removed the caps and checked the floor bolts. Any experience? Thanks.

This has been a problem with Tacoma's and RAV4's and the rattle is in the seat tracks. First I've heard of it in a 4runner (if that is, in fact, the problem).

The rattle occurs at the point where the seat sits in the track that is on the floor. I'm not sure how people are fixing the rattle.

Of course, you may have a different problem.

I can minimize the rattle by holding down on the plastic trim piece that covers the door side rail/frame. Right along the carpet and between the end caps. That may be the piece that’s rattling. Has anybody ever removed this piece? Hard to see under there but I’m wondering if it just slides on and off.

Edit - It appears that lower trim piece between the caps does not come off without removing the seat or at least removing the bolts to the floor. I was able to loosen it a bit and pad with felt tape. I think the rattle is improved but that passenger seat sure seems looser/shakier than my driver seat. I think I’m going to make an appt with the dealer and ask about the tracks as suggested above.

Mine rattles. 2018 TRD Off Road. Drives me nuts. It's the whole chair rattling front to back at a rapid pace. Doesn't happen constantly, just when no one is seated in it and at slower speeds (probably on certain roads as well). Come on Toyota! If anyone has a remedy, please share...

Does your passenger seat slide/glide smoothly along the rails? I have a rough patch for a couple of inches and I'm thinking it's related.

Yeah, it has a rough patch. Maybe 50-75% of all the way back. My wife is long legged and slides it all the back when seated. This is where the seat rides when empty. It's an intermittent sort of thing. I'll have a closer look at it this weekend.

That sounds similar to mine. The shaking didn’t bug me too much until the shaking caused rattling. I have tried felt taping the lower trim strip between the end caps on the outside track. That has helped quiet the rattle but not totally. I am considering asking my dealer about it but I hate going in.

My dealer will probably give me puzzled look and say "Huh, haven't heard that one".
If you do, let us know what they say! Like I said, I'm digging in to mine on Saturday..

Any chance you have made progress with your seat shake/rattle? I’m still battling mine a bit.

I've pretty much given up. It only happens once in a while. Could not figure it out! My next rattle is the fasteners that keep the front wheel well engine mud guards in place.

Anyone ever find a fix for this? I finally realized that it is the front passenger seat. I can lightly hit the seat and duplicate the rattle. I looked under the seat while doing that over and over and could not stop the noise from happening, but am certain it is the seat.

I lubed the seat rails with silicone brake grease.. the balls stick in a spot so the seat will not vibe when lubed..

My 2019 has a rough spot at the same point since day 1, on both front seats. Haven't bothered telling the dealer 'cause it burns my ass when I get a "We checked and it's normal."

Mine did the exact same thing. I eventually just bumped the passenger seat to get it to make the noise and moved the seat back and forth until I found a position where it stopped. That worked.

Old thread, sorry, but this is an issue I am dealing with too. I pulled the seat all the way back, and issue was solved. But, when the grandbaby is in the truckster, seat goes forward. Its loose in the tracks. That is what it feels like, as I can pull from the headrest, to right corner of seat and you can feel it being loose.

Try changing the angle of the seat back…it might have the same effect as sliding it to a different position.
…Anything to avoid taking it in to a dealer lol

I wont go to the dealership, other than to purchase, if I did..
Well, I did have them program it to have the windows roll down..
The seat does not sit in the tracks well enough. I will try different angles today..

My 21 ORP has it. I have found that all the way back helps also. Plus if only seems to happen while accelerating at low speeds (less than 35mph). I hear it more so on black top versus concrete also which I would think the opposite

Tell me about it. Recently,I figured I’d give the dealer a shot to take care of a squeak in the rear reclining seat. A epic waste of time and insulting experience…and add to it , now Im finding new dents and chips in my doors.

I’ve got pinstripes and dents from trees/branches. All naturally occurring, and mine lol. But I hate that they were the ones that put new rash on my vehicle.

Whenever I arrive in the service drop off bay at my dealer I get looked at like a asshole when I slowly take a whole walk around video of my vehicle. Saved me once so far!

Same problem as everyone else. I found a way to get it to stop! The seat can still move back and forth. Small piece of cardboard from a beverage box.
