Cant believe I forgot about the bro grill! I will say, I’ll make no apologies when I finally decide to spend more money and get the bro grill. I wanted one before all the cool kids wanted one.

Along the lines of Pro vs OR models. After three years of SR5 ownership, it finally occurred to me that the more I use the 4x4 “knob/dial” the less I have lever envy.

The 4x4 knob/dial so far has performed as expected and I’ve grown to like the cleaner look of the center console with it.

The SR5 4x4 would do fine for you. I have learned over the years to not pay for things I don’t use. I used to overpay for stuff I never used, like lockers that I would engage once in a while just because. A 4x4 4Runner with atrac engaged will get 99% of the guys wherever they are trying to go. Most pro drivers don’t even take their pros off road, it such a waste of money.

 

Before I modified my Venture (ORP with a roof basket ) I did some off road driving bone stock and it did great. No problems at all.

 

This reminds me of the talk about "more reliable" manual 4wd selector vs electronic 4wd selector. I'm really not sure about these if they fail or not or any other problems. Mrs hates the manual 4wd selector as it is hard to shift back and forth 2wd - 4wd on mountain roads when there are both dry & icy spots.

I really liked my SR5 and may be should have not sold it. It had 3rd row which is handy to take my office mates to happy hour or something. It had no moon roof so it had plenty headroom also I don't have to worry about broken glass inside if I caught in a hail storm. My TRD ORP had a narrow escape from a hail storm because I was able to stop under a big tree. It was a raining time for few days before that so I was expecting a hail storm. I thought it was just rain clouds. But all of a sudden those who are in heaven started playing golf..!!!

Yes A-trac is pretty good and with experience now I'm using a-trac more. It takes little practice how to use it. I was trying left foot braking like old days but with new tech I get more and more lazy. I was planning to add front and rear lockers and the cost for e-lockers were pretty cheap.

I know people hate 3rd row but I love them and wish TRD ORP/ TRD Pro had that option. As show on one of my videos it had adequate space for me in the 3rd row even though the cargo space is useless when 3rd row is up it was very useful for me. Nowadays SR5 also comes with LED headlights, newer headunit with carplay & android auto, Toyota safety sense,etc its a pretty good package IMO.

 

this is the reason I want the dual usb option. The dual usb's are 2.4V ports. The one standard USB port is a lower voltage port, if I'm not mistaken.

 

I have heard of the actuators failing on Tacomaworld. I don't think it's common, though.

Even though the OR and PRO have a manual shift transfer case, we still rely on an actuator in the front differential. So, yes it is one less potential failure point. But, we still rely on electronics to engage 4WD.

I wouldn't let that be the factor that makes me choose an OR over an SR5. For me, it was mainly the locker.

 

I'm obviously a 4Runner fan but to be fair there are a few trucks in the video and it's the Tacoma and the Titan that had shocks blow out and it looks like the Ridgeline didn't in this current test. He mentioned an old test where the old Ridgeline had shock issues and the new video is to revisit that issue and see if it was corrected. I don't know what their stock components are but they must have really improved them in the Honda. Informative video, imagine an old farmer in his 1970 Ford that couldn't drive the 10 miles on dirt to town somewhere in Iowa because his shocks would blow up! That's not to say I'd rather drive on dirt in a modern Ford truck vs. a 4Runner. I've been on the Arizona Strip and the Trans-Labrador Highway in a stock Off Road Premium and didn't have any issues. I'm not sure how these guys were driving prior to the issues. And of course a Tacoma isn't the exact same as a 4Runner.
