KDSS thoughts?

    Tinted fronts, blacked out overlays.
    If I had plans to lift my 4Runner over 3” I would not have gotten one with KDSS because I would have invested in one of the Premium lifts which would make the ride a lot better without all the nuances of Body Roll and Nose Dive. But I never planned to lift beyond 3” so I got the one with KDSS, which I am very happy with. Like the OP said he’s not doing a lot of Off-Road driving so in my opinion stock with KDSS is the way to go.

    Calm down dude. You are acting like someone from Toyota. Don't forget we paid our own money and we don't loos or gain money from someone buying. Its not wrong to talk drawbacks while other members talk about benefits. Same way talking about drawbacks of TRD Pro. Have you seen a single post I act like you when someone post drawbacks of TRD Pro? In fact I support the fact I see drawbacks and don't get offended because I have it. I saw the same behavior you on the tire thread with Roland. He got very valid points as well. So calm down..:bowdown:

    I am calm. Just pointing out that the drawbacks are fewer than the benefits for some. Like I said, I would steer someone away from it (including the OP of this thread) if they wouldn't benefit from it.

    I was annoyed in the other thread because someone had claimed to answer a question when, in fact, they hadn't. To be fair, I might not have been clear on exactly what I wanted to know.

    I responded to your earlier post to clarify something. It wasn't any sort of attack. If you want to point out the drawbacks of KDSS, that's fine.

    When you referred to my post as a "story", it insinuates that I'm making things up. I didn't make anything up. I was trying to explain that, while KDSS will eventually become a limitation in highly modified vehicles, it is actually an advantage in stock or lightly modified vehicles.

    But, it's not for everyone. I know we agree on that. :D

    My stock suspension/KDSS truck has spent over half of its life on dirt roads/trails/tracks. Its beat up and sure does not compare to the lifted and shiny parking lot queens, but the suspension and KDSS has been flawless. This is also loaded at max vehicle gross. I enjoy the KDSS on twisty roads as well with a heavy load on the roof.

    I have KDSS on all my 4runners and mod the crap out of them. If you put an aftermarket suspension on KDSS and have issues. You're doing it wrong.

    I've put the TRD Fox suspension on '20 and '21 off-road KDSS models, lifted, wheels, tires. Perfection. No lean. no extra janky spacers.

    I'm going to do it to a 2022 model as well.

    2020 Off-Road Premium w/ Predator package & KDSS
    I have KDSS on my 2020 off-road premium and really like it. Eliminated body roll and have never had an issue off-roading with it. I don't do major rock crawling so a 3" lift is not in my list of future mods. With KDSS you can still do a 2" lift with no ill effects.

    I pull a 5x8 off-road trailer. Coming home from a week in NC a person nearly took me out on the freeway when they abruptly tried coming into my lane. I made an abrupt left swerve and they recognized their error and quickly pulled back. I don't want to think how bad the body roll might have been when I cut left and back right while pulling a trailer had I not had KDSS.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

    Hey man, do what you will. I just don't get why you're on that crusade, never having owned a 4R with KDSS, or personally experienced a failure.

    It's one thing for someone who's experienced a failure of a system, and it's going to cost them a bazillion dollars to fix, who comes on the forum to warn others...it's another thing to warn others based not on personal experience, but on hearsay from internet "experts".

    But, be my guest. Warn away. It's your right.

    Don't cry buddy.. Nothing will change. I will continue to share what I found. Especially advice from channels like Car car nut, Accutune, R4T, Toytec.

    Update-
    Almost forgot to mention SnailTrail where I learn about the trackbar issue with KDSS when lifted first before finding more detais from Accutune. I think it was with Icon stage2 lift. Another channel for you to hate. LOL..

    I don’t know enough about the pros and cons of KDSS, but I was thinking with help, we can put together a nice pros and cons list.

    FEEL FREE TO ADD

    Pros-
    Factory installed suspension upgrade
    Reduce body roll when cornering on road
    Best wheel articulation without sway bar delete


    CONS-
    limits lift to under 3 inches.
    Requires extra parts for extended travel lift
    Potential failure point
    Needs regular cleaning so “controls” don’t rust due to collecting debree

    It's been reliable in general. It seems that failures are usually due to corrosion from not cleaning out the accumulator skid.

    Just my $0.02.

    Test drove one with KDSS and one without. My girlfriend gets carsick easily, so she notices very small differences in handling. She loved the 4Runner without KDSS, until we tested the one with KDSS. It was night and day for her.

    On a regular basis I’ll be taking a fast winding corner and look over and she’s not even leaning in her chair. Test-drive it first. Please don’t take any other opinions seriously until you do, especially from anyone that hasn’t had the experience.

    I love it when people post photos showing how much articulation they have, but, umm, what about those street tires on both rigs? It's like straight 6 Gen2 camaro owners with air shocks and big wide tires out back. As if they'll ever need the traction.

    I hear ya. But, I have 2 sets of tires. I wouldn't blame anyone for having a set of granny tires for travelling, and another set for off-road trips. I'm actually really enjoying the quietness of my Toyos right now. :D

    I got 21 ORP with KDSS. Love it and have no regrets. I don’t plan on doing any heavy modding so the lift limit doesn’t really concern me.
