Wheel width and offset questions

2005 sport edition. Has 17 inch wheels with 245/70r17 tires.

Looking at new wheels that are 8.5 inches wide instead of the stock 7.5 inches.
New wheels have 0 offset.
Keeping same tires.

will I have issues with rubbing or any other issues? I apologize if there is already a thread. I just couldn’t find it.

second question
If I went with same new rims (8.5, 0 offset) but 265/70r17 tires (instead of 245) would I have any issues?

Without seeing any pictures (always helpful!), and assuming your old wheels are the stock ones from the factory, they are 17" tall x 7.5" wide x 30mm offset, or 5.5" of backspacing.
Your new proposed wheels are 17" tall x 8.5" wide x 0mm offset, or 4.75" of backspacing. Whether you pay attention to offset or backspacing, they both tell a similar story. I prefer backspacing, which is the distance from the hub mounting surface to the inside lip of the wheel. Wherein, if you go from 5.5 to 4.75", you're shifting the wheel mounting surface for the tire outwards, away from the truck body. Many people like the wider stance that comes with 0 or even negative offset, and it generally affords you more options for tires. Assuming the same tires 245/70r17, you should be fine but always keep an eye on clearance at full turning lock going fwd and reverse. Secondly, 265/70r17 is one of the stock tire sizes offered for 4runners from Toyota, so again you should be in the clear, just keep a weather eye. If you wind up rubbing, you can change sizes or start cutting. Lots of threads on that

 

Yes. They are the stock 17 inch 7.5 wheels right now. No lift

tires would stay 245/70r17. Possibly would want to go back to 265/70r17 down the road.

I don’t want to have to do any trimming and don’t want to change tires at this point. They are less than a year old.

I had 265/70-17 on my Level 8 wheels which are 17X9 and I had no rubbing on stock suspension. I am now running 285/75-17’s with a 3 inch lift with no rubbing after removing the front mud flaps.

 

We have 8.5" wheels, 0 offset, and 275-70-17 tires with no rubbing going on, 3/2 spacer lift also. I have heard that 275 didn't rub on stock susp. either.

With 275s mine didn't rub....before the winch and bumper were installed. Rubs now.
