All I have a 2020 4Runner with the new deck not in the previous models. I started having random reboots of the entertainment system. The screen will go black, the air conditioning fan shuts off for .5-1 second and the whole thing reboots. It has done this so many times and other times it won’t do it at all. I have tried restarting the car (sometimes that works), just disconnected the battery tonight so everything is fresh tomorrow. This started about 2 weeks ago.

Nothing more challenging than chasing intermittent electrical problems. That said and best guess on where to start would be to check all plugs involved in the system up to and including fuses(properly seated and solid connection). Is there commonality between the entertainment system and A/C fan wiring? :notsure:

I pulled it all out to install my ICS phone holder mount and that is when it started doing this. At first I was like… maybe a bad connection that I didn’t click back in. I pulled it back out and nothing was loose but I went through every connection and made sure it was a snug tight fit. Things were looking good for the first two rides and then last night it did it 3-4 times in a matter of 5 minutes. I turned the car off and then turned it back on and it didn’t have another problem.

If it happens again? I'd suspect a pin may be ascue in one of the connectors.

Hopefully the battery was disconnected for some time before you started pulling it apart...

may be completely unrelated but three days ago my radio just randomly rebooted driving down the road about 2-3 times and then stopped.

No… :( I thought about that after though. But that doesn’t change what I did.

After disconnecting the battery last night it has been great so far.

Electronics nowadays can be very sensitive as I'm sure you know. With computers inside of everything, they are susceptible to stray voltages or static electricity - even the small charge in the human body if not grounded to the frame of whatever you might be working on.

Well what do you know. It started happening again last night. System kept rebooting after I pressed on the brakes and got to a speed around 15 mph. I think it happened 1 time above that speed. Then I went into the grocery store after being frustrated and came back out, drove home in the opposite direction and not a single problem. I am like… :annoyed:

I believe to have found the problem. It was my Ironman winch controller box. Water must have got in it. I disconnected it and I haven’t had the problem since. Now I don’t want to count my eggs before they hatch but it has been problem free and it stopped right when I disconnected the winch controller. It would do it just sitting still and press the brakes.

What was the winch controlled wired into?

My radio (Corolla) started rebooting, but doesn’t finish. Then at the same time the AC will not heat or cool. Unrelated? Toyota thinks so. It’s a blend actuator. And need a new head unit.

It was wired directly into the battery. I believe water got into the winch controller box and shorted something out and is causing this weirdness because it has still been great with no issues ever since disconnecting it.

Weird. Yeah that could be a possibility as all that stuff is connected to the same source. But I am not a mechanic for Toyota and would have to look at the wiring schematics to possibly figure it out. Sorry dude. I saw a while back you posting your model trains. Pretty cool stuff. I hope this issue doesn’t eat into that fun because those are pretty cool. I love setting up small towns and would love to make one that is similar to Switzerland and all its beauty.

My radio crapped out with less than 500 kms on my 2020 TRD OR. It tried to reboot and never did finish the process. I ended up getting a replacement from the dealer on warranty.

Well I’m excited to get this Soundstream replacement installed. The wireing kit was back ordered. But there are five on EBay. I don’t use any of the stock technology really, XM is boring, glad to get rid of it. Just need to tear into my factory unit and get my Armageddon soundtrack CD out of it. Has”Sweet Emotion on it”.
And I can hook my cassette player up to it has an eighth inch input on the front.
