Discovered yesterday afternoon that someone decided overnight to bust my rear passenger quarter window... and i havent even had the 2022 4Runner for a week.... arghh...

Already have a new window on order from safelite (fyi those windows are $278 installed for anyone thats wondering) and now Im gonna be driving around a new car with a window covered in tape... classy....

seems totally random act and of course was parked at end of the driveway out of range of the ring driveway camera... im on a dead end street in a sub division in the country , but as of late lots of shady folks driving through that dont belong there... anyway rant over.. just pissed now... and get to clean up glass that is everywhere all the way to the dash ...

That sucks! Probably too cheap to use insurance, unless your insurance has no deductible for glass.

    People suck!

yeah seems my insurance (USAA) changed up their glass policy to match the regular 500 deductible... so im footing the bill...

Yours is the 3rd I've seen posted this week, various places. That said, it occurs to me those window breaking/seatbelt cutters have been so overproduced they're available in .99c stores these days, and we all know what that means! :annoyed:

That definitely sucks big time but way better to get the glass broken than getting a dent in the sheet metal. Glass is cheaper and easier to fix.

You sure it wasn't a lawn mower or weed eater? I imagine a vandal could do that, but you'd think if they wanted to look around they would make a hole in a window with a door.

Wife got a pebble from a weed trimmer in the back glass and it looked a lot like that. Did you find anything inside the vehicle like a brick or wrench? Does the grass near that look trimmed?

That sucks dude, so sorry. The Safelite quote looks really reasonable though. How do they deal with the radio antenna in this window? Or does this model not have that? Mine at least does. A bunch of reddish wires running through the inside of the glass on both sides. At first I thought they were heating elements but read they're actually antennas.

Did you have anything in the back? Maybe they thought they saw something valuable but realized they were wrong after looking in. Park closer to the house if you can. That really sucks.

Familiar story! @Thatbassguy and @McSpazatron have already heard me whine about this, but some jerk in the Home Depot parking lot keyed me on Sunday. They’re the horrible parkers yet I’m the jerk for parking too close. So as Bass says, people suck!

You know that feeling when John Wicks dog gets killed? Yeah...that with this post.

@universalfrost I used to be LEO and when we responded to calls like this, we always asked the RP if they had any "enemies". Hopefully you didn't have any. But if you did, and caught wind of the fact you got a new ride? Oh man...they knew how to get you especially if they had some squabbles with you.

Sorry to see this bud. That is awful in so many ways.

In my neighborhood a bunch of thugs are using saws to steal catalytic converters off various types of cars in driveways overnight. A few were even stolen in broad daylight at a grocery store.

Sadly I only see all this getting worse. It sucks we all work hard to buy a few nice things and smucks steal stuff or just vandalize.

So sorry for you. Just a few days ago we were all pumped for you to get your new ride and now this. Unreal.

That reminds me, I have to replace batterys in my farthest cam. With blink you can get about 40 yards away from sync module.

but don’t put it on a tree. Especially a hickory. Squirrel cam!

yeah no enemies at least not that i am aware of.. (and the ex wife lives in europe so highly doubt it was her... lol) plus im on a dead end cul de sac in the country and im thinking that either a neighbors teenage grandson that lives with them or some drug heads wandering the woods in between the neighborhoods and have been known to rummage through sheds and steal yard power tools etc.. .

at this point im just livid still and if i ever catch them at night in my yard they better have a good lawyer...

Yeah an old military buddy had his converter chopped off in his driveway on sunday night / monday morning as well (he's in the indy area)... he complemented on the fact they did clean cuts and saved him a ton on repair/replace vs some of the folks that use a sledgehammer or so to beat it off the pipe..so could have been worse.

I few weeks ago, I was hanging with some friends at other friends house. All of a sudden a vehicle pulls in the driveway the owners goes out to find out its the police. They were stated that someone was in the neighborhood throwing apples at windows. He said that it wasn't anyone here, asked the kids (girls) about it, and they said nope wasn't them. One of the apples hit a window so hard it knocked down some things from the window sill. About 10 minutes later, one of the girls comes out to own up to it. Kids will do stupid things, we just hope they own and learn from them.

Did you find any object in the vehicle that may have caused the break? Anything on the ground near it?

i finished cleaning up the car yesterday and didnt find any object like a rock, etc... so with the fact that the force from the impact forced glass all the way to the front dash and there was not a foreign object located inside the vehicle, i would say this was someone hitting the window with a bat, hammer, etc... im glad they just did the one side window... i wonder if the alarm went off or something to scare them away (to be honest i dont know what the factory alarm would sound like other than a chirping of the horn as i have not had it set off yet that i am aware of... )...

also still no clue who or why ... other than it was parked at end of driveway .. i do have veterans plates on it.. but this part of the country is fairly right leaning pro military and any leftwing extreme types that would have been anti military are few and far between.. so i doubt is was because of the military plates... etc .. probably just the neighbors grandson or random drug head wandering between neighborhoods looking to steal .

Sorry to hear about this. It appears that the damage was just pure vandalism as you surmise. Maybe middle school age or older.

When I was in Grade/Middle school age we did a lot of mischief. Things like tepee a tree with toilet paper or soaping a window on Halloween night. Putting a firecracker in a pumpkin the night after. Squirting a water pistol on someones window. Stuff like that. But the thought never crossed our minds to actually damage anyone's prperty.
    Times have changed I guess.

Hopefully it was just a random act. It doesn't replace the money, but maybe it's nothing to get too concerned about. Sometimes people do stupid things just to do them.

Mine got egged a few months ago. It bugged me for a few days until I finally decided to think of it as a random stupid act. I haven't had any other issues since then.

Yup! I sometimes think about the stupid shit we did as kids and thank god nobody ever got hurt.

Lol! That's how bad the resale value is!
