No good dead goes unpunished LOL. I was on my way to drop off all the extra candy to my friends at the fire house and some guy blew a stop sign…



Everyone walked away. All things considered I’m really lucky. SO is the other guy. The shop is gonna let me grab the rack and light. But the suspension goes with the truck. I hope I can find another one.

 

Why do you say totaled? I see the airbags but I bet they can replace and it doesn’t look too bad compared to some I’ve seen that weren’t totaled either

 

In ct when the airbags deploy 9 times out of ten they total it. Pretty much everyone went off.

 

Just remember, when the insurance adjuster calls, you were paying attention and YOU TRIED TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION!

 

The cops already gave fault to the other guy. I’m good there. But finding a replacement and the cash out price aren’t going to be good. It was paid off so it was worth more to me then them. But it is what it is.

 

Can you just keep it and fix it up with the insurance money?

Its interesting that you got air bags deployed and my airbags were not deployed. I was not in the car, so not sure how much impact was their at the accident.

 

The difference between two vehicles moving at speed versus just one is substantial.

I am so sorry to see this, Lodi. I am not sure if insurance companies will pay replacement value, but if they claim to in your policy, you should absolutely fight for the ~$60K that they are now selling-for.

You might be surprised with the insurance offer. I had a total loss on a 3 year old vehicle recently and was offer 4K more than I had paid for it brand new.

 

Some of the air bags are only activated by having so many pounds in the seat.

 

Not if they total it. If they total it, they capture the vehicle and own it. In ct, I can take the accessories off ( I.E. ROOF RACK) and have that assessed value taken off the car. I’ll know more tomorrow, but my friend works for travelers in total loss and said don’t get your hopes up with what they offer you, I do hope she is wrong though.

I’m actually surprised there isn’t more damage. We hit pretty hard. Where my truck is is where the impact happened, and where his car is is where he got knocked to.

Not long ago, when I saw the ridiculous cost of used vehicles, I called my insurance company and inquired if, in the event of a total loss, they would pay me actual value at that time, even if it was more than I paid for the vehicle. The answer was yes, a total loss is covered for the actual value at the time. I hope you have good luck with your carrier.

in my years in LE I saw lots and lots of dead drivers and passengers. I always tell myself it’s just a car and cars can be replaced. You used the word blessing so I suspect you know what I mean.

 

Man, glad that you and the other driver walked away. You've lived to see another 4Runner. With the value of these vehicles, it would be surprising to me if they total it, but if they do, hey, at least a 2021 or 2022 would be a nice parting gift! By the way, was Travellers your insurance company or the other person's? I've dealt with them once before, and they are one of the reasons i started going with my carrier (USAA) and letting them subrogate on all accidents. Travellers gave me such a headache the one time I had to deal with them.

My friend works for travelers, I don’t use them. I haven’t gotten the police report yet so I’m not sure who the other carrier is.

 

Sorry to hear man but glad you're ok. Someone blew a right turn red and totaled my 2010 Tacoma. I was not at fault but I still didn't win since I had to replace my long since paid off Tacoma.

 

Glad you're ok! Did the impact bring you up on two wheels? (Thinking it must have to set off all the drivers side bags like that!)

 

So sorry! Since the other guy was at fault, his insurance company should be covering your vehicle under the liability coverage the other driver has. My wife was in insurance and reminded me of how it works. In that case, you should be sure to itemize all the mods you made to the vehicle to ensure the other guy's insurance pays you a fair price. If they don't offer a fair price, you can challenge the offer in court. You may not want to do that but you can.

In CT, They appraise mods exceptionally low. The option I do have is to keep the accessories and have that come off the total value of the car. The rack and light I’m keeping. The suspension obviously not, and the rims…..meh I will probably leave them. But the rack will not appraise anywhere near the 1700 I paid for it, but I could get 1500 easy just because no one wants to wait for them.

With how crazy high the 4R values are right now though, I'd be surprised if they total it... The damage doesn't seem "that" bad. Airbags deploying are pricey but that doesn't mean it's automatically a total loss.

Gather some information on comparables across the nation and be prepared to go back and forth with the insurance company a bit. Even if they total it though, you should still have a buy back option with a nice check left over to repair it if you really want to keep it.

Glad everyone is O.K. I would argue big time with the Insurance Co. Here in Canada you can buy it back off the Insurance Co. but it becomes a "Branded" vehicle. Can be repaired but then has to go through an inspection to insure competent repairs were done before it can be "Unbranded". It also shows up in the mandatory seller's used car package that must be provided to the buyer. This 4Runner is easily repairable. Been in the business a long time. Wrecking yards around here would never scrap or part out a vehicle like this. They are constantly selling vehicles like this with all the necessary used parts to repair as a package deal. Body shop guys I know would buy these in a heartbeat. Just saying.

My SIL was in an accident in her 4Runner and it was totaled not too long ago and insurance paid them replacement value. My brother had to argue with them a bit but they finally did the right thing. They just replaced it with a new limited.

 

As everyone else has said, very glad everyone is ok.

Hard to say what insurance companies will do, my Mini was totaled in a hit and run by someone in a stolen vehicle. Payout was top dollar for a 14 year old car (and more than I paid for it!).

Anyhow, I tend to not want to drive cars after they've had a major front or rear hit. Things are never quite the same.
