    Howdy!
    Looking at a 2000 SR5. 139,500 miles. Asking price is $12,000.
    Current seller says he bought it from someone in FL who used it as a DD, but not sure how many owners came before that.
    Current seller “installed a separate transmission cooler and new transmission lines, and a new, Bluetooth stereo deck, a new steel deck and had a front drive shaft replaced. Brakes and tires are both in good shape.”
    Sliding sun roof and rear window that is part of the back hatch are inoperable.
    Under carriage-
    “there are a couple of peeled paint spots with very minor surface rust & no structural rust or body rust whatsoever.” (See pics)
    He said he’s only taken it off road once since he’s owned it to make sure the four wheel drive works and it supposedly it does.
    He hasn’t towed with it but says the overdrive switch works.
    He only has service records since he has owned.
    I think I insulted him by showing him the kbb private party value vs the price he was asking.
    His response: “KBB doesn’t take into account that it is one of the most reliable cars ever made, with less than 150k on it. Super rare to find this low mileage and it this good of shape mechanically.”
    I personally think it’s priced too high, but maybe you experts could chime in?

    This vehicle is in another state, far away from where I live, so seeing if I can have a mechanic of my choosing in his area check it over.

    Helpful input from the clan here would be appreciated!

    PS-I was going to include a video or two of the 4Runner, but don’t think that’s an option on this forum?

    Knowing the asking price would help us be able to give you opinions.....

    I would say used Toyotas almost always sell for over book and people selling them know that. I have a 98 I bought with around 115k on. I paid 3500 bucks. I got incredibly lucky. I bought it from an older guy who said he needed something newer and just wanted it gone. The hood is oxidized but other than that it is in great shape. Prices are also very dependent on location. To me 12k seems like a lot, but the market is crazy right now. I sold my 02 Tacoma after putting 60k miles on it for more than I paid for it.

    @4scooter19-
    Wow! Nice find!

    I’ve been on the hunt for a Toyota Rav (mine currently has 265,000) & a 4Runner for at least 3 months. The market is nuts with all this insanity going on in our nation/world!
    We have been Toyota & Honda lovers in our household because the ones we’ve had have lasted forever & our motto is “drive ‘em till they die!”
    Owned a 2007 Camry for years that had 310,000+ on it & we only parted with it because it was totaled from a wreck.

    Thanks for your response. What would you pay for the one I found just based on what I posted?

    After reading this thread I did a craigslist search in my area and found a handful of third gens for sale. Most of them where between 10-15k with comparable miles but most had lift kits and accessories. If it's up to date one maintenance( water pump and timing belt) I'd probably offer 8-9k it's almost double book, but like we established earlier the market is nuts.
    Here's one with 180k for 6900 bucks

    Edit...
    Just realized it's a 2wd

    KBB doesn't apply to enthusiast cars which the 3rd gen has been moving into. I would be a little insulted too.

    @negusm-
    Thanks for your input.
    From what I gather in my many communications with the seller, he isn’t necessarily an enthusiast.
    I’m new to the 4Runner territory, so I still have a lot to learn.
    Unfortunately, some folks take offense pretty easily.

    I dont think that KBB evaluation is for the 4x4. 4x4 easily adds $3k

    Thanks @4scooter19!
    @treyus30-When I entered the vin, it automatically selected 4WD. That’s the value kbb came up with.
    I’m still considering the vehicle, but I think based on what I continue to learn, the asking price is too high.

    I would say if it were in perfect shape, 10-12k is market value. KBB is wack these days. If you could get for 8k I'd consider that a steal.
    You can check the Buy/Sell/Trade of this site for comps too
