Is the owner of this stuck 4Runner on here?

Love the MORR video channel and their latest one features a brand new 4Runner stuck in a bad spot. Owner seems like a good guy. Always fun to see a 4Runner on the channel getting rescued, but it's pretty rare.

 

Very cool. I love southern Utah. You really need to research your routes and recent conditions when driving the sand hills. And build your experience on easier trails before tackling hard trails like the Barracks trail. You got to know your limitations!
That was a great rescue. At least the 4Runner guy got a T shirt for his $1000+ bill.

 

Seemed like a really good guy that the entire family bailed on. Well, all but one, and that's because she couldn't get out.

 

It surprises me how ppl go so unprepared (like most of Matt's customers are), at least get some MaxTrax and have a winch when doing that, it could save you a fortune in recovery bills...

 

Lesson learned?

Of course they used the "tie down" point to hook up the rope. But what's up with popping the hood during the recovery?

 

Apparently not all Corvairs are "dangerous at any speed" ... Ralph! Albeit, this one was a "bit" modified. Still ... kinda embarrassing on the 'Runner's part.

 

These guys were just spotted headed over Donner Summit, and all the locals are super excited wondering where they are headed. Apparently one of them has a mining claim in Nevada County or thereabouts.

 

They call it operation golden nugget. It has been a long time in the making but they modified the Jeep for this run. Looking forward to that video when it comes out.

 

Nothing on the 4Runner to be embarrassed about. The driver got in a situation at night time it sounds like (sounded like he didn’t know what was around him and I can only imagine that happened during the night).

Yeah you can say that corvair is a bit modified. That Corvair is running 40” tires and was specifically built for what it does. A stock 4Runner couldn’t touch what he can do with that corvair. I think Matt could have been in that same situation and gotten his corvair out. The stock 4Runner is capable but surely nothing in comparison to a vehicle on 40’s. Just like a stock TRD Pro can’t compete with a heavily modified 4Runner. TRD Pro stock is a good entry level setup to get out there but as others have stated things are needed (winch, tires, etc.)

Just because you have a 4Runner doesn't mean you can go to the moon and back.

You do have to educate your self and prepare your truck too.

Yeah, it's a recovery of some sort back in a tight spot. Looking forward to finding out what it is. Ed is the one with the mining claim. Stopped by there in January and met everyone and they are good people.





Hoping to stop by again this coming January on my annual trek to Arizona.

 

That is pretty cool that you got to go in and see everything as well. They seem like super nice people.

 

It is not just

There is more to it than having a winch or MaxTrax in that area a winch may have helped a little bit if you have all the right gear for it and were lucky to have something solid to anchor on and that is not always the case in that area a lot of the "trees" will pull right out and I know since I been all over the location there with my Can-an and FJ Cruiser that was very well outfitted and had winch.

The area is constantly changing and can be unpredictable what was good yesterday will turn around and bite you today if you get some rain it packs nice when it dries a bit Get wind? the sand becomes very fluffy and slippery so you really need to know the area before heading into it. Matt and crew make it look way too easy and shrug it off ahh that was not bad.... but they do the areas every day and self recovery attempt for that guy really was more like at the 50 / 50 risk of making it worst since he probably never done anything like it before so he was better off not having a winch .....
(All the Rant in this Post is My opinion that I just spouted because I have seen the results when it go's wrong)

Ha ha! I'm a gonna call BS on that one! because you have more off road experience and a very well out fitted rig to go with than most of the clowns I run into on the trails and if I run into you I'll be the one asking questions

I really want to meet them too. I'm a big fan too.
I was thinking how much would it cost to call them if I purposely get my self stuck Sand Hollow State Park. If they welcome visitors to meet them at their office it would be so much cheaper. As courtesy I will buy some t-shirts for my family.

 

I like the part where Matt talks about why he chose Jeep Cherokee in one of the videos. Less cost. Nothing wrong with old cherokees. Dime store cowboy

 

I spent a lot of time when I found out about Matt’s off-road recovery to get caught up with all the videos. Literally watched everyone of them. My wife would always say are on YouTube again? Then this past winter I had a chance to help others out that were stuck in the snow. One lady was a nurse stuck on my in-laws campground (1 mile from the main road). So I pulled her out using the knowledge I learned from Matt’s Off-road recovery (cars have a spot in the front bumper you can pop out and screw in a recovery hook). Used that with some rope. Helped pull her all the way to the front so she can make it to the grocery store and leave her car out front so she wouldn’t be stuck the next day when she had to go to work. Felt awesome. Then I had to help a Ford Mustang Roush who was lazy and wouldn’t walk to the ATM and tried making it through the drive-thru. Needless to say he didn’t have a chance. After 30 minutes of trying to shovel him out we had to defer to ever so slightly pulling him out with a rope around one rim (we went very slow as to not mess anything up as he just needed a slight tug). Got him out and he was so thankful. It really has a satisfying feeling to it. However, I know you have to be careful as people are sue happy. Sad thing is courts allow it. Now we have a society who will see someone dying on the side of the road and won’t help because they might get sued for helping and not being licensed, bonded, and insured. No wonder people walk around like someone is trying to get them and society feels like you can’t do anything for anyone. At any rate I thought about how cool it would be to do that as a profession (minus the late nights ).

It's a joke, guys.

 

My girlfriend and I just stopped by randomly and chatted with Javier in the office. Once he figured out we were decent people and not weirdos, he let us know that Matt was gone, but would be in soon and we could go back and see the MORRvair and chat with Rudy. After a few minutes of drooling over Rudy's welding work and fab skills, we were treated like extended family. Matt, Jamie and Ed showed up and we got to meet everyone and chat a bit.

I gave Matt a copy of my book and left with an invite to return when I'm back in the area. Just super nice folks.
