I just sold a Camaro SS I never drove and made $5k over what I was expecting. I decided to add some upgrades to my 16 trail.
    • I've already purchased a Cornfed level kit.
    • Front bumper is first priority. I'm not off-roading but we get snow and idiots drive crazy in it. My choices are either the C4 Overland or a Victory 4x4 which with powder coating is going to eat about $2100. Extreme LED light bar for the bumper.
    • DIY rear bumper, my buddy is going to weld it,(no tire swing outs etc) $1100 including powder coating.
    • Full length roof rack I'm guessing $700-900.
I doubt a replacement skid would be of much benefit but I'd considered it. I'll upgrade tires when these wear out. Leaves me with about $1000. Suggestions?

If not planning on going off-road, I would allocate some or truthfully much to getting a high quality audio setup.

Just FYI, spacers with the added weight of the bumpers and roof rack probably won’t have the best ride. I would say at least get some 5100’s with some aftermarket coils. If ride isn’t a priority then disregard this.

Buy a quality light bar. Rigid, Baja, etc. But, keep in mind that most light bars aren't street legal.

Cornfed and the folks I take my vehicle to for tire work for helped me there.

Luckily in my state as long as it’s below 55 inches it’s legal.

    Changed my mind a little.
    • I've already purchased a Cornfed level kit.
    • Victor 4X4 Blitz $979
    • DIY rear bumper, my buddy is going to weld it,(no tire swing outs etc) $1100 including powder coating.
    • TRD Front skid $300
    • Full length roof rack I'm guessing $700-900.
    • Replace runners with Sliders?
    • AT Tires $800

I would spend the money on a good suspension lift instead of a spacer kit and dump the rest of the stuff.

Always felt 4Runners come perfect stock, except for the tires. Even more so if it's Pro or an ORP with KDSS.

My only real mod planned is all-terrain tires. Everything else seems like whimsy. Some of you guys are rolling around with like 1000lbs of extra junk as if you're wrangling dinosaurs in Jurassic Park or something, idk.

I look at all those stock 80s and 90s SUVs in South America, Africa and the Middle East that get around some of the harshest trails stock so I'm a bit skeptical on the winch/ladder/lift/Tonka truck tire style mods. Unless you're exploring Mars or something.

You must only visit your local hiking trailheads if you don’t see the need for a lift/winch/armor or other items.

That's what I did, and I realized that I don't need all terrain tires even. Stock tires are nice, I get 23 miles per gallon to get to the trails :)
Turning my 4Runner into a beast is going to cost me a lot of money at the pump

I hate the plastic bumpers. They look fine it’s just taking a hit from anything over 5mph would mess it up. Roof rack for traveling, hunting and camping. Same for the skid and sliders. Hunting and camping.

Just keep in mind you’ll probably end up sagging quite a bit, in the front and rear due to all that weight with no support. Hunting and camping will more than likely add a couple hundreds pounds too, so just an FYI to keep in mind. The stock suspension probably won’t be happy.

    • The bumper weighs 60 pounds minus the aluminum bumper (maybe 15 pounds?).
    • Rear bumper is about 70 pounds minus stock.
    • Roof rack I have no idea, I haven't pick one out yet. Edit: It's aluminum 20 pounds.
    • Sliders 60 pounds minus running boards.
I'll probably net 140 pounds added.

If this was a grocery getter I wouldn't be considering the upgrades. Yeah definitely not putting 17K in haha. I went a little nuts on my Camaro but I'm not doing that again.

Haha it's 140 pounds not a 1400 pounds. Tires though, I definitely don't want to go over 275.

Don't you have a thread saying how stupid that trail in the 1st pic is?

    Yeah, here it is.
    https://www.4runners.com/threads/what-a-stupid-trail.22430/#post-284035

Stock tires are nice on roads that a Camry can drive on. Not so much off-road.

I am perfectly fine in my stock tires, I will only upgrade to bigger shoes when I find a decent trail that will seriosly test my boy.

It looks like you forgot to add the weight of a winch. (If you’re doing the front number mod)
