you are about to open up a can of worms with this statement! Lol, you are 100% right, but people with 4x4’s like to get offended. 95% of people will never actually need 4x4. Even on trails

Incorrect. There are plenty, albeit they are mostly soccer mom junk vehicles though. Lol Escalade, Yukon, Expedition, Suburban, etc.

I can agree, to an extent. There's a trail I frequent that I can do about 90% in 2wd if I want . sometimes I'm in 4lo just because of how rocky it is and I'm driving about 2mph. But, sometimes I'll go from 2wd to 4lo and locked in a matter of seconds. :D It just depends on which line I choose.

The Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail can probably be done 100% in 2wd, but it's still a fun ride. During the Spring thaw, though, it can be pretty squishy in some areas.

You don't need 4X4 for snow, front-wheel drive vehicle with snow tires will do perfectly fine. Look at that lifted Corolla hatchback in Kabul Afghanistan. It has been lifted up to probably more than 9 inches, and has rugged snow tires, and it is doing perfectly fine. Dude probably lives in the outskirts of Kabul on some Mountain. There are mountains even in downtown Kabul :D

There are some places where only the ground clearance helps, good old ground clearance, like 14 inches of ground clearance. And super short wheelbase. A super old beat-up Jeep or FJ40 will make that, and the rest of the sophisticated 4X4s will just watch helplessly :D

We also got the 4R for beach driving here in New England... I wouldn't trust a Subaru, highlander or pilot on the beach... just my opinion...

Friend drives limousine with a Suburban, he is at 250,000 miles, and he has changed the transmission three times so far. Nope, you are right, those things are junk boxes. In comparison, my dad's a 1998 4Runner with 380,000 miles, is on the original transmission so far. 100000 Mi of those miles are Afghanistan miles let's see how the Suburban copes with the terrain in Afghanistan, the thing lost three transmissions here in America on the paved roads. It is so sad to watch what General Motors is doing. We should not save them from bankruptcy next time

I posted that picture but I didn't reveal that those folks also carry a bag of sand/little pebbles and a spade in the trunk. Poor Man's way of dealing with snow, those who could afford, they go for the Mighty Hilux
