2016 Front End Rattle

I have 3000 miles on my 2016 Trail. After a long gravel road ride it sounds as if I have something loose in the front end. Now when driving through small gutters when making turns around town it has a noticeable rattle. Anyone else have this.

I'm nervous about taking it to the dealer because....well fuck dealers. But I think I should.

I drove a buddies 2014 w 12000 miles, his did not have it. Any suggestions or ideas on what it could be so I can talk a little more educated at the dealership.

 

I have a 2013 Trail with 41,000 miles, and I have a slight rattle in the front too! It's driving me crazy, and I'm not sure what it could be. It doesn't sound like anything major, but something small that is loose.

 

Do you have skid plates? If so, I would check for a loose stone that could have made its way inside the skid plate. I'm sure it's nothing to serious as these vehicles are built tight. If not, definitely use your warranty.

 

No skids on mine. Sounds like it's in the steering somewhere to me.

 

I had this issue on my 14 Tundra Crew 4x4 and I was told to Lift it and just take a rubber mallet and hit around under at all connecting points and i found it to be a lose bolt on my steering column easy fix. Give it a shot if you don't like your dealer. You do have a warranty that should cover these issues. Just don't tell them you were off roading because they find ways to say it's your issue from abuse. They tired that with my truck.

Same issue with mine from purchase time. First trip to dealer, they verified but offered no resolution. I found it now with 30,000 miles. It is an aluminum clip on the suspension knuckle. Knock on the suspension and you will hear it. Nothing wrong, just metal hitting metal on bumps. I put grease on it and will see. Looking for a tech service builetin on it as it is poor design because of the rattle. Did not have rattle on my '03 runner but do not recall if the clip was the same.

 

Where is this clip located on the knuckle? Im getting a sound thats most similar to tapping the brim of an empty plastic coke bottle. It can only be heard at low speeds going over small bumps or gaps in the pavement. If you don't mind, please post a pic. Thanks

Thanks. Im going to check this out on mine along with the steering column that jerry mentioned about having on the tundra. Im not sure the tundra has the same steering column but it's worth a shot

 

Could you specify which bolt on the column it was? thanks

 

My 2015 TRD Pro has just started this same thing at about 50,000 miles; it is absolutely driving me crazy! No bumping noise on hard bumps like rail road tracks but seams in roads or tar and gravel roads are awful. Has anyone actually came up with a for sure solution; would rather cut my throat than go to my local dealer!!

 

My solution is to ignore it... may not work for everyone though. I actually kind of enjoy the noises, now. I make a game of predicting when they will occur. Massive hole that bottoms out the truck? No noise. Turn left into my driveway, massive clunk.
