Can't seem to make up my mind, so I thought I'd let the webz push me one way or the other.

I have my name on a waitlist for a 2022 TRD Pro at MSRP (seem to range between $52-$55k).

I'm number 4 on the list, and get no say-so in terms of color. Dealer claims they do not do many (if any) add-ons.

The other option is a Lunar Rock (love the color) ORP for ~$48k that is available at a different dealer now. Yes, it has KDSS. It does not have upgraded wheels and tires. I think the stock ones are ugly.

I like the Pro's because I'm not one to do a bunch of after market stuff. I get that Toyota charges a premium for wheels/tires, shocks, etc. There's also other small things like dual-zone climate, better stereo, etc.

    Curious what you all think.

I'd go ORP now if you love the Lunar Rock. If I waited and the only Pro that was available eventually was that Soylent Green color, I'd be a little tweaked!

I’m in the same situation as you. I’m on the waiting list as well and decided to go with the lunar rock ORP. It’s around 8 to 10k difference and I’m going to change out the suspension , wheels and tires for my much less.

There's no real answer to your question. It really depends on whether you think the price difference between the Pro you might get, in some color you might or might not like, and the ORP that you like the color of, and know you can get, is worth spending to replace the wheels, and possibly the suspension of the ORP to bring it closer to what the Pro would be like. I like the KDSS myself, and know you cannot get that on a Pro.

The price difference between the two will more than pay for the upgrades.

    Where do you live?

Because depending on where you are, dealers may not sell you a pro at MSRP.

Good feedback! I just saw a Lime Rush in person, and it's not for me. I could live with the other colors.
Missing out on dual climate control and the JBL stereo kinda, sucks - guess you can't have it all!

I used the list on this I found on this forum to find a dealer that isn't marking up. They exist!

Get a TRD Offroad Premium without KDSS, save your money, and spend half of the saved up money to turn into a TRD Pro later. Or do what I did, get the KDSS, you will love it

Dealer location please...my dealer must have misplaced my truck, lunar rock ORP with kdss...I'm on the list for one. Save your $$ and get the ORP upgrade to better suspension later if you want.

I’ve been debating the same things, but have decided to wait due to mark ups and new design. However, I see pros in both designs. Buy a Pro and you are pretty much done with everything under warranty. You are spending a little more then if you go the ORP route. Personally, I would have went the ORP route. The chances to personalize your suspension, rims, tires and anything else one would choose is worth it. Dual climate zone and upgraded stereo just aren’t that important to me. Wife is always cold and dresses for it and I’ve shot to many weapons to have good hearing, lol. Good luck getting a good price. In my area, Delaware, they either laugh at you when you talk about ordering or getting a Pro at MSRP or they are marked $20K above MSRP and they claim they have sold them at that price. I’ll be waiting for the greed to subside and it should bring me to the 6th generation. Just my 2 pennies worth of opinion.

Not knowing what color you would be getting would have me pass. Just me.

my vote is also the ORP.

    Thanks everyone.

That ORP w/ KDSS is looking sweeter and sweeter.

If it doesn't work out, I guess I'll have to get an Outback Wilderness

If you really don't want to modify, the PRO might still be your best option.

However, if you prefer the ORP color, get the ORP.

Don't compromise just to get it sooner, though. You'll always wish you had waited.

    Fair.

From my back of the envelope calculations.

    ORP w/KDSS $48k
    Wheels/Tires + $2k
Suspension +$1.5k (and I think you'd have to wait for warranty to run out to not void it)

We're getting darn close to a Pro now.

    Pro at MSRP $55k
(again, dual zone climate, JBL stereo, roof rack (love it or hate it) included)
    All the above under warranty.

Having no say in the color of the PRO would be a deal breaker for me.

ORP would be the easy decision if it was the color I wanted.

I would go Pro, but that is me being biased as I just laid down a deposit for one in MGM. Like yourself I don't plan on doing many mods, I got that out of my system with my Tundra. Well actually the only big mod I plan is going to be adding the Eibach spring kit front and back with 275/70 Wildpeaks. That being said the dealer did also warn me that it is probably going to be 3-4 months waiting.

I feel like my 2021 4Runner ORP with KDSS has less ground clearance. Do your research on that before getting KDSS.
@Thatbassguy Does KDSS decrease ground clearance? The skid plate is kinda low to the ground.

Obviously TRD Pro has higher resale value. All the components were put together in Japan and by Toyota.

I would never buy a TRD Pro. Why? Because it is just too much. TRD ORP is more mainstream.

Excluding ridiculous dealer markups, the price difference between a stock Pro and a ORP w KDSS and aftermarket wheels tires and suspension is only a couple thousand.

I don't think it actually decreases clearance, but I'm not 100% sure. I think it just moves the lowest part of the skid forward so it looks lower.

I kinda felt sad after I parked next to an SR5. Even SR5 looked higher in the skid plate lol.

Also in case we want to get rid of KDSS after it dies, can we remove the thing all together and put aftermarket shocks and suspension? I am talking 15 years in future lol

Just be glad that you have better articulation than an SR5, or a PRO for that matter. ;)

That's my plan for down the road when the 4Runner is no longer a daily driver. But, you can use aftermarket suspension with KDSS as well.

If there is sales tax, you have to figure the extra tax for the $7k difference in price of the vehicle.
If the upgrades to the ORP are bought new you'll have to reduce the extra taxable account by that much.

ORP with KDSS is not $48k. I bought it for $46k. And it was MSRP.
