Shifting from drive to Reverse too quickly?

Hey all,

I feel like I have no shortage of unusual truck questions this month lol.

Let the gf drive my 2012 for a bit of practice for her license.

She came to a pretty quick stop, and went from drive to reverse faster than I would have.

The truck may have been moving forward or just crawling ahead slightly when she did it.

No weird noises, no engine stall, and everything seems to be good with the transmission shifting etc.

Is this anything to worry about in terms of potential damage to the transmission? I obviously won't make a habit of it happening again but I'd hate for it to bite me a few years later!

Should hold up fine to some abuse but just don't make a habit of it like you said.

Since I have no life I watch a lot of people do interesting things on YT. One channel is Precision Transmission in TX. He pointed out the damage from shifting into the reverse direction while moving. I think it was spline damage to one of the clutch hubs. It was a long abused transmission but he didn't recommend doing it even with a built one.

 

Interesting. Was that at any particular speed / RPM or in general?

 

It was a just don't do it. Maybe if you were being pursued.
