2022 4runner trd sport lunar rock

This isn’t directed at you, but I have noticed the sentiment that some people think they have the ultimate version of the 4Runner just because it comes in a fancy limited edition color and has a mild factory lift.

I think a lot of it stems from the fact that people pay ungodly premiums to dealers for the privilege of owning that fancy color, not that anyone would fess up on Internet message boards where every TRD pro is purchased at $5000 below MSRP.

 

I believe dealer fees are what other states call "Document fees", there are states that do not limit the amount, and there are states that do. Dealer fees usually include all the paperwork and the work dealer does to prepare the vehicle for buyer takeover. So the dealer fees can become a way of overcharging the customer, but usually are not astronomical, like the "market adjustment" fee that is shamelessly added over MSRP.

 

Honestly, I don't think I've noticed that sentiment once. What I notice is many trolls derailing threads with pointless snark regarding Pros. It's not that tough to avoid paying the premium (or at least it wasn't last winter). My process went like this: 1) I looked online for the Toyota dealership geographically closest to my house; 2) I called them and asked if they would charge me anything over MSRP; and 3) when they promised they wouldn't, I got on the waiting list.

And of course (as you know) the Pro offers more than a fancy color and a mild factory lift (as you snarkily framed it).

The Pro is a nice package off the lot for not a ridiculous amount more than you'd have to spend to upgrade another trim level with wheels, tires, suspension, etc. It looks great stock (IMO), and is capable and fun to drive.

Anyway, back to the TRD Sport talk . . .

 

And I’m mentioning because it makes a big difference. As in cost.

I purchased my trail in 2013 for less than $38,000 out the door.

And that has KDSS, rear locker, terrain select, hill control, ATRAC, and a sunroof.

The interior quality for those models was one step above that of an FJ cruiser, not very impressive.

For less than $5000 you can install an amazing lift, tires, and rock rails and still be way below PRO prices.

The real question is is any of it worth it? Toyota likes to pad their vehicles towards the end of their model life, kind of how my LC200 was only $62,000 in 2008.

There is some adjustment for inflation, obviously.

 

I mean, I guess? I just noticed in here and in other groups, a pretty direct disdain for anyone that orders a pro as if it were just a color difference and leaving out the wheels, suspension, jbl, dual climate, led headlights, etc. it may not be a big deal to some, but to others like myself, it’s the best package out there. In the history of automotive, there has never been an “ultimate” version for stock that supersedes aftermarket work. That goes from every trim of every car outside of super cars where no one mods. But to each his or her own, right? I e already spent 2k in upgrades for my pro including very nice rock sliders. Could I have gotten a trail premium and maybe saved a buck and gotten a bit more out of aftermarket? Sure. Then I may lose some of the other factory options I have that were there from day 1.

It goes down to how much person A wants to tinker. Either way, I thought we are a family. I should be welcomed as much in my pro as the guy with a lower trim that decides he’s got a better rig setup. Who cares? We all are 4runner fanboys especially if we took the time to register here and participate right? Love this truck!

 

Damn after watching that ToyotaJeff video... $5.5k premium for heated/vented seats and the JBL sound system (taking into account the Tech package added onto the Sport) seems like a lot. But heated/vented seats are a must! haha

 

The camera system (anytime front and rear) is nice. We have that in our 2020 Rav4 TRD Off Road.

I still get the feeling Toyota is using up it's Limited parts before the redesign. It's like the Pro roof rack that came off the FJ Cruiser. They must've had a lot of inventory on that Roof Rack.

 

I do not think vehicle manufactures work that way, at least production lines. Parts are made as needed and arrive on a fairly tight schedule.

 

Definitely with Toyota. They go by a just-in-time production system.

 

The Pro rack was definitely inspired by the look of the FJ's, but their dimensions are totally different.
