So, back story, I sold my 4Runner back in May for about six grand more than I had paid for it two years earlier, and got a Subaru Outback. The Outback is a great driving car, very comfortable, but the "ipad" where the dashboard ought to be has been a thorn in my side for the last several months. (It freezes, drops bluetooth, randomly shoots the volume through the roof, shuts off altogether, etc.) The dealership "can't do anything but wait on a software upgrade" and Subaru can't commit to when that might happen.
So, today I found a 2021 SR5 Premium 4WD that a dealer deigned to sell me at MSRP, and they offered me what I paid for the Outback as trade in. So hopefully later this week I will be back in the club.

I probably broke even. But ended up with a newer truck with 0 miles on it. At least that’s how I’m justifying it to myself.

So we can consider you an official fan of Entune then?

If it’s a choice between Entune and Starlink, I am entunes biggest fan! seriously, their system ruins an otherwise stellar car.

That's too bad you had some bugs with the Subaru. My wife has a 2017 and it's been good to us. I'm sure they'll work it out with a software update, but that's still frustrating to deal with.

At least you're getting a 4Runner out of the deal!

How about a photo of the offending iPad? Those giant screens irk me to no end...

Bummer!! I LOVED my outback . It really is a fantastic vehicle. I’m going to have to look at this “iPad” you are referring to. I didn’t have it on my 3.6R

Why not replace the audio system in the outback? Either way welcome back!

That would have been my preference, but Subaru’s only solution has been to wait for a software upgrade that “may fix it when it comes out later this winter”

Yeah it’s really disappointing. It’s a great driving car.

In the end you will do what is best for you and if you make it back we welcome you with open arms. That is a bummer to hear about your screen. I thought I remember reading posts from you just a couple months ago with how you switched to Subaru. Fuel economy and that extra money for the 4Runner I believe were the reasons. That is one heck of a tablet though. Looks bigger than my laptop monitor.

Well if you make it back share pics of the new 4Runner. I wonder how long they will hold that 4Runner for you with the current market.

The problem is that screen is Toyota technology and it will be making it into the next generation of Toyota trucks and SUVs.

I've owned two Subaru's, a '17 BRZ and a '15 Impreza. Both had whatever "Starlink" is and I think it's one of the worst, most fickle systems. I'd take Entune on its worst day over Starlink on its best, and I am far from a head unit snob.

When I saw the Tundra release I had that same thought, which pushed me to get another 5th gen while I could

Very similar position as you. Sold mine for more than I paid, then quickly realized I hated the new ride and went back. Welcome back. Lesson learned.
