New here, never ending search for a 4Runner

Lurked long enough figured id join the community. Been looking for the past few months for a 4Runner and im just not quite fast enough to grab the good ones when they pop up. Currently active duty on deployment so shopping via internet is THE WORST. I cant ever seem to get family or friends to the sellers fast enough and if theres anything ive learned in the past 20 years of buying cars is you NEVER buy without having someone inspect. Ton of great info on here and seems to be a great community from the threads ive seen.

Welcome. Unfortunately, for the foreseeable future, if you are buying new, you have to buy without seeing it. These things are getting bought within hours of allocation into systems and often time even before that.

If you are in/near northwest oregon, Damian Lillard Toyota was great to purchase from online. Final paperwork was in the dealer though.

I had started out intending to purchase a newer used one however after doing some research i learned i could buy a brand new one for the same price OR better than i was finding used ones which were 2&3 years old with 40,000 miles on them not to mention what comes with used like being smoked in and such. For a smoker no biggie, for me who's not a smoker - a biggie.

So i ended up finding the model and features i wanted and went on a search. Found one with a great dealer who was NOT charging MSRP, put $ down on it. it came in about a month later and i drove it home.
If i didn't like it there wouldn't have been an issue, deposit money refunded and walk away.

I probably wouldn’t mention to the seller that you are deployed.

Every Internet scammer pretty much gives the line that they are “deployed overseas” and they will send an “agent” or a “good friend” to inspect the item.

 

We got lucky and found a 2019 Nautical Blue SR5 the morning it was listed at the lot. We were there at 9AM and bought it shortly thereafter. 17K miles and paid $42K (no dickering=take it or leave it!). Traded the wife's 2005 X-terra. Next day my 2005 Frontier dropped a tranny. So we got a 2014 RAV4 (24K miles) a couple of weeks later for her and I inherted the Runner. Live in the Cascade foothills and see LOTS of Runners around town (almost all are stock) but never more than 3 listed at the dealers and almost all have the Imperial Stormtrooper Look (WHITE!!!).

 

i have had that problem but it comes up eventually when they wonder why i am not the one going to the seller. My wife usually calls the seller or dealership if go without hearing from them.
