Hi, I just bought my first 4Runner, it is a 2018 model. I got the car yesterday from Vroom. And I don’t know if this is kind of rust for a 2018.

One of the hazards of buying online...do you know where the vehicle was owned before? The rust isn't terrible, but needs to be dealt with asap.

Original from Pennsylvania then Florida. Should I take it to mechanic and let them do it?

Yeah looks to be a little much for a 2018. I have a 2018 and I barely have rust on mine, if any at all.

I still can return the car. That is a reasonable reason to return it right?

If the rust isn't too much for you (I know Vroom gives you so many days to return a vehicle, or used to), and you want to keep it and preserve it as best as possible, first do this - search online, typing this in the search bar:

    dealing with rust site:4runners.com/

You'll find plenty of ideas. Unless, of course, you know a shop in your area that specializes in rust mitigation...

It was my understanding that Vroom will let you return it for any reason.

I’m thinking about take it to the professional mechanic and let them take a look at the rust, if it is treatable I might keep it.

I have a 2016 and have hardly any rust on mine. It lived in SE Ohio originally, where they don't use road salt (coal chips).
I requested under-hood and under-vehicle pictures from the sellers on EVERY vehicle I looked at across the country. Avoided a lot of cars that looked like this.

That looks like more than what I'd be interested in.

I might have to ask Vroom if they could do anything about it. Otherwise I will return it

That looks like quite a bit to me for a three year old.

I've got a 2018 and it doesn't have any rust. I live in a desert climate though.

Looks pretty normal to me for a Northeast vehicle. Looks to be all surface rust. I would coat the underside and keep it.

I live in NC as well. That looks like a decent amount of surface rust. However, I believe it is totally possible to address it. It is going to take some work to fix but you have to ask yourself a couple questions:
    1. You in need of a vehicle ASAP? Can you hold out for another one if you return it?
    2. How long does vroom give you? Can you schedule an appointment to have a mechanic look at it?
    3. Do you have the desire to fix what you can yourself if money is a concern (do you even want to)?
    4. Are you stuck on owning a 4Runner? If so what is inventory like?
    5. Does the car have any other problems or is it pretty solid and look well taken care of (oil, records etc.)
I know these are things you probably already asked yourself but honestly depending on how much you spent on it do you really want to try and address a rust issue? If you own the car you would see me taking it apart, get my angle grinder out with a paddle sander and get all the rust off and then painting the heck out of it.
