Congrats, I had 3 German Shepherds' Wonderful companions. I'm sure you know about them if you spent your childhood with one. When I was young training GSP's was my hobby, Schutzhund training 1-2-3 (German Program). I lived in Belgium, hence, I liked the Schutzhund program better then the Belgium program, which is similar to a certain extent.

Later on in life I had my first Bouvier des Flandres, which is native to the area where I was born. Storm is my second one, my Bouvier Storm I posted in the pictures. I followed the German Schutzhund program with him as well. He is 3.5 years old now and is totally ready, he loves to work.

Don't overwork your GSP in young age, pay attention to his hips (Dysplasia) (Osteoarthritis). Just, some friendly advice. I have a degree in Cynology, which I studied because of my love for dogs and my hobby. This is not my major degree, I studied something entirely different for my profession.

I wish you & your family good luck with this incredible companion.

Thank you for your advice @Roland. I always welcome advice.

Its very hard to keep this fella safe. Very clumsy. Always try to jump from the deck to grass when I'm not looking. About 1.5 feet drop. She is 2 months old and I'm not walking her yet. I let her just play on the grass.

She is good with potty training as she do her business on the pad at night and during day time she scratch the glass sliding door when she want to go out for her business. Slowly trying to teach her some commands like "come, sit, eat, drink,etc.." not very successful yet. I might give couple of months and enroll with some training.

I have to give up on trail runs for some time as she doesn't like the ride even though she has a full harness go around her chest that connects to the seat belt and full non slip dog cover.

You more than welcome, in case you need any advice, feel free to contact me.

Let her play & explore, keep up with the potty training; feed her at the same times, take her 3 to 4 times a week around the same time in the car or truck for short rides 10 minutes max, if possible, on someone's lap holding her and looking out the window. I would not advice to use a harness or any type of device to constrict her, neither to keep her for extended periods of time in a vehicle.

The most important command is come (a dog’s life saver), start one command at the time till she does at well, realize, her attention span is extremely short at that tender age, this will grow overtime. Try a couple of times a day the come command, for now with something she likes to eat and praise her a lot, take the treat away once she comes a couple of times, just praise and pet, she needs to learn not to come for the treat but because you ask her to come to be with you, when she is around don't go to her to pet her or if she comes to you look away, in other words ignore her; she will get it in no time what come means, her greatest reward is to be with you. I know it might sound harsh to ignore such a beautiful little soul; hence, you do her the biggest favor, sometimes it’s very difficult to be on the same page with other family members, hence, it's extremely important.

Do not repeat any command twice (never) (like come come come), if she doesn’t come the first time stop; get closer to her and show her the treat and then start extending your distance slowly, do this in the house and in the yard. That’s also why it’s important to teach her one command at the time well.

Thousands of dogs get killed and hurt because they don't execute the come command well.

From 3 to 6 month's is obedience training. Remember, good behavior is rewarded with praise, do not give her any treat's anymore just praise her a lot, pet her etc.

Punishment or yell is the biggest nono, all dogs will try at some point in time to chew on furniture or objects humans don't like them to do, try to catch her in the act and exchange for a toy. You know soon enough she will change teeth, chew time.

    Just a little advice.

You should only love you're dog, not hate him; because there is no such a thing as bad dogs, only bad owners. Don't take me wrong not saying at all you are a bad owner. You have a great Malinois, awesome. Malinois need a lot of activity and obedience training and they will not be destructive at all, you own one of the greatest breeds in the world. I don't want to lecture you at all, I complement you with your dog, they are bred for a purpose, love him to accommodate to his nature & he will love you more.

    Wonderful dog, congrats.

You will all get my humor eventually. I know I am new. Little little demon will get posted a lot!! She is my little problem child, but I would not trade her for anything.

She is the runt of the litter, and remains to be as such. She is 38lbs and full grown. She tests my patience with the crap she tears up but makes me laugh more than I ever thought she would.

OH!!! And she is JEALOUS! Lol. We have three other dogs. Lord have mercy if one comes near me. Haha!! I am her man and she makes it known.

I hope this puts you at ease. My girlfriend gets PISSED when I let willow (malinois) on the bed when she is in the shower. Ha! She gets out to us either asleep or cuddling.

You are correct. Fantastic dog. Hyper as all get out and I have scars showing that she is a biter. She loves our runs together and loves to cuddle….even if it means my hand is in her mouth being chewed on.

first pic is the day I brought her home and second of her now.

I'm at ease, I know they are fantastic dogs and very protective; I know as well that Malinois easily bite, that's one of the reasons why they are used Worldwide by the Army and all type of law enforcement for defense K9 and different purposes, not only bite, which is fine as long they do this on your command. Just be careful that a stranger or child by accident not end up with scars. This is just some good advice and without intent to lecture whatsoever. To each his own.

I'm always exited when I see great breeds, I trained dogs for quite some years in my native country (Belgium), where Malinois, Tervuren shepherd, Groenendaal, Bouviers and Bloodhounds are native.

Good luck with your great companion & welcome to the Forum.

thank you!! I have a 5 year old and she was very involved with willows upbringing. She could lay on her, pull her ears and tail. She even fed her by hand. Obviously supervised and not hard with any pulling, but willow is VERY child friendly.

Thanks. He comes from a long line of working dogs. His parents are a K-9 (dad) and a Cadaver/rescue (mom). He’s had no formal training but one day I was at work and the wife called and said it sounded like someone was in the house. I said stay on the phone you know where the guns are and get Panzer. She got him and said he went and searched every room and closet and only came back when he deemed the house cleared. He’s a handful and sometimes hard to deal with but honestly he is great.
