    Excellent explanation, thank you.

Usually the only time we have fog in our area is in the winter months during an inversion.

I was going to attempt to answer this, but @memario1214 answered way better than I possibly could have!

Yellow SS3's seem to be the best choice for fog lights to be used as fog lights.

So far I have mainly used my stock fogs to supplement my headlights on clear nights.

It's rare for me to encounter adverse driving conditions at night, I don't get out much.

Great name, btw. Many many years ago I’d go slope flying with my buddy. We even got some of the foam combat planes to knock each other out of the air!

Thanks, I've been building and flying RC models for about 45 years. Slope soaring has always been my favorite. That's one of the reasons why I moved from the flat Midwest to West over 20 years ago.

IMO, glider flying is far more challenging than powered planes. I flew powered for many years too.

I have been as well. The nice thing is that an SAE fog can still be used that way.

I have driven in some shitty ass conditions at night, and am really looking forward to getting some nice upgraded fogs.

As much fun as my wannabe Rockstar days were, driving home 2 hours in a snowstorm after closing the bar we played at was a miserable experience I'll never forget. Part of the misery was that it looked like we were in a Star Wars movie with the snow flying at the windshield the whole time. It was like driving into this for 2 hours:

Sooooo true. We had a place that was up pretty high and had wind bursts up to 45 but if you came down a bit the thermal flying was just as nice. That’s where I spent most of my time just learning a figure right and trying not to crash what we built. That’s why I went to foam combat, let heartbreaking when I had a rough day.

    Totally understand.

I slope large Buttes in the desert, hence why I own a 4Runner.

I prefer big wind, at least 25+. I watch the 10-day forecast like a hawk. ;)

Best, is a relative term. For my use upgrading from halogen to LED with the Cali raised fog light bulbs was the best choice. Better light output, color choice between white and yellow, quick installation (30 minutes), cheap price tag ($100) and street legal. With other supplemental lights for offroading I just needed better street driving lighting and did not want to replace the halogen headlights.

Quick Install - Yes. Cheap - Yes. But don't kid yourself into thinking that those are street legal. They have a lot of uplight which is far from SAE Compliant. VVV

When I compared them to the halogen bulbs with just one installed, the pattern looked identical except it extended a little further out from the center, was brighter and actually white (when not on the amber mode).

If you have an opportunity one of these to turn them on with just your running lights on against a wall I'd love to see the output! There's technical analysis of these bulbs out there floating around somewhere that I'll try to find in the meantime.

I consistently use my factory LED fogs right now to fill in the gaps of the factory LED headlights, which I feel are very under-whelming. Would the Diode Dynamics SS3 pro or max, in 6000K be a good compliment to my current headlights, or would the completely over power them? I just want every day performance improvements...

(As far as amber lights go for fog, now, or other off-road conditions, I plan to add a DD 30" light bar at a later date.)

Thank you! Are you running them in the stock headlights? I'm asking because your beam pattern is really wide and clean. I have LEDs in the stock head light and my beam pattern is so scattered.

Here are pics of the Cali Raised fog LED bulbs, the white setting does have some upwash at distance. But the yellow is still lower than the low beams and would be good on the street.

    Low beams (halogen, boo)

Low beam and white LED fog setting

Low beam and yellow LED fog bulbs

Low beam, white and yellow LED fog bulbs together

Low and high beams -phone camera might have auto exposure adjusted a little but height has good reference

I agree with newlife. Have DD SS3 Max in white and they are very bright up close and have pretty wide spread to sides of vehicle. Definitely brighter up close than my factory LED headlights. You definitely would want to aim the Max’s correctly due to their brightness. Otherwise you will be lighting up street signs like crazy and blinding people in front of you.

I have diode Ss3 pro fogs and ditch lights. Great lights, great fitment, easy install.

One gripe. One of the ditch lights shipped without a rubber grommet for the wire harness that goes into the light itself. I reappropriated from another harness. No biggie but that's just rookie QC.

OK, installed DD Stage Series sport amber. Also installed the DD SS 6 grill light bar white.
Thoughts and comparison to Baja Design SAE an=mber fog on my Tacoma:
IMG_6705.jpg Basic look with my horrible SR5 stock headlights

IMG_6701.jpg Baja Fog and TRD lights on Tacoma white on top and yellow down low where it should be. I run these most of the time like this

IMG_6703.jpg Lights plus DD fogs on 4Runner

Results: Light Bar is worthwhile. Decently easy install. Great white light output but to run them all the time, I had to angle down quite a bit so I don't blind someone. This takes the distance away but I can use them to supplement my crappy headlights. Initially had them level. This gave fantastic lite output but could not run in traffic.

The DD Fogs are way too bright to run all the time. They blow out the stock headlines and make everything yellow. Really yellow. Much brighter than the Baja's. This was the 4runner kit. I did not see an obvious way to angle them down. (If anyone knows a way to angle fogs down, let me know).
You will see from pic that the DD fogs seem to be same light line as the stock headlights, where Bajas are under the headlights on Tacoma.

There was also quite the gap on the DD's. The Baja's were a cleaner install but the DD's are good enough but disappointed with the gap.

If I can't angle the fogs down, I can't run them all the time or people will not be happy. they are really bright and hit oncoming traffic.
I can only assume the whites would be the same issue but the world would not be yellow.

Whole setup is big improvement for driving in dark suburbia or rural roads but I had to angle the light bar down and I will have to TURN OFF the fogs on Highway or traffic conditions. That was not my goal.

Okay, there's a decent amount to unpack here. I'll take it one chunk at a time though, and we'll get though it together!

    Fog Lights
    • Aiming - I can tell at first glance that you have them aimed way too high. If the upper portion of the beam is creeping up on the bottom of the OEM headlight's hotspot that would indicate that the fogs are actually angled upwards. As you mentioned the further you go out with that angling the fog lights will actually overtake your headlights, and this is definitely not a street legal scenario as you've identified. Here's how they should be aimed (link to aiming Fog and Driving Lights). With the beam falling 4" at 25' (on level ground) they can be run on the road all of the time and into oncoming traffic without blinding fellow motorists as the upper cutoff will be below their sight-line. This also keeps the light low and wide which is ideal scenario for poor weather conditions.
    • Adjustment - You referenced an inability to aim them down, as well as a gap. There will likely still be a gap where the bumper and the angled bezel of the fog light meet up, but it should be less than 1/2". Once you have the lights installed into the truck you can adjust them using the allen head screws on either side of the light itself. Loosen them on both sides of each light, and you can do two things: 1) Push the light forward within the plastic bracket that came with the kit. Here's a photo of those brackets (LINK). Once you loosen the Allen head screws you can slide the SS3 itself in that bracket. 2) Pushing the light forward in the bracket opens up the ability to more finely adjust the up/down maneuverability of the light. You should be able to both tighten up the spacing that you made note of as well as match the requirements of aiming that I linked above.
    Driving Lights
    • I think you might have the valuation (or legality) of an SAE Driving lamp interpreted incorrectly. A "driving" lamp is an auxiliary high beam lamp, for use only with the vehicle's high beams on empty roads in clear weather. Not with low beams and not with any other traffic in front of you (in either direction). Adjusting them down as a low-beam supplement is not the legal nor the intended use of them. The situation which you initially installed them in (straight ahead) is the proper way to go about installing as well as using them.

    • Honestly, I think this where the majority of your problems are stemming from, and the one that I feel is the most critical that we address in your situation. Poor headlight performance. There are some ways to go about getting better headlights without breaking the bank. Out of the box your low beam is an H11, and it can be upgraded to an H9 with just a small modification. However, if you really wanted to get some quality performance finding a set of OEM LEDs from one of the new 4Runners will open up your eyes (no pun intended). I would check ebay. I'm sure they're out there floating around. Also, although pricey, the Morimoto XB LED headlights will far outperform your current situation as well.
    • If you just want to change bulbs pick up these Philips H9 bulbs. You will have to do a small modification to them to make them fit, but it's easy. Your usable Lux should nearly DOUBLE
