Spare tire?

I have a 2017 4Runner Off Road with 17" aluminum wheels and offroad(ish) tires. Three questions:

1. Will the stock spare tire work with the other three wheels?
2. If I buy a 5th wheel and tire to match will it fit underneath where the stock spare is now?
3. Anyone know where I might find a used single wheel and tire for sale?

2. Yes (assuming 285/70/17 and smaller size)

Stock spare rim is 7" wide so although it'll work with larger 285s it isn't perfect. I use a 285 on it and don't really care... but technically it'll squeeze the tire into a slightly taller profile than if the same tire was mounted on your stock 7.5" wide OR wheels. Personally I wouldn't mount a nice aluminum wheel under the truck, it's going to get banged up with road debris and rocks.

 

the spare also does not have a TPMS in it, if that matters to your setup.

I have the 275/70/17 AT3W's installed on my 4runner. I found a brand new take off 255/75/17 BFG and installed it as my spare tire. Fits under the 4runner perfect and it is tucked under a little more than the stock spare. Found the BFG on offer up for $40. SCORE!!

 

Bringing this back just to confirm a couple things:
1. 285s on the stock steel spare wheel fit fine in the factory space location (under the rear)?
2. Do 285s fit better in the stock spare location when mounted on SR5 or TRD Off Road wheel?
3. If using SR5 or TRD Off Road wheels as a spare, the only "modification" is the removal of the center cap correct?

I'm looking at picking up an SR5 wheel to use as a spare instead of mounting 285s on the stock steel spare wheel and want to confirm everything before I make the purchase.

3. Correct, you would need to pop off the center cap so the hanger can 'swim' through the opening and draw tight against the wheel

 

Why mount on spare steel, just get set of 5 wheels. I'd careless about additional few hundred bucks if already spending few grand.
