Hey everybody. Im new here but I’ve been around some 4Runner forums and I’ve been looking at getting one for quite a while. Im finally in a financial position to get a used one! but we all know that the market has gone crazy and it could be that way for years.

Near me, BC Canada. I’ve seen a 4Runner limited that seems to be the best deal in These parts at the moment because the only others available are SR5s for the same mileage and price.

2013 limited 4 runner with 100k miles on it. The price is canadian$32000 before tax that’s the equivalent of usd$25000.

This would be my biggest and most expensive car purchase and I want to have it for years. That’s why I’m asking what do you think? Would I be ripping myself off or should it last for a very long time still? I want to do some off-roading with it but nothing crazy yet.

Welcome to the Forum from Texas.

We will need some more info, to many unknown variables.

Make sure there's no rust underneath (frame).

If it's been well maintained, it has a few more hundred thousand miles left in it easily.

At that mileage, you will have some maintenance ahead of you in the next few years (CV axles, hub bearings, etc). If the frame it in good shape, it's worth doing.

One thing to look at is that if it has XREAS. XREAS is very expensive to replace, but can be swapped out for standard aftermarket shocks for much less money.

I can't tell you if the price is good. Used cars are so expensive right now. And, used 4Runners are always expensive.

I can't speak to price, as I don't know the market in your area, but as far as longevity, I wouldn't worry about the mileage at all. I bought my 2013 2 years ago with 79k miles, it has 123k on it now. I bought it planning on driving it 20-25k miles per year, and keeping it at least 10 years.

The biggest thing to look out for is rust. If you're not sure what to look for, I'd suggest taking it for a pre-purchase inspection at a shop that's familiar with Toyotas. Mechanically these things are great, but they're definitely prone to rusting in damp/salty climates.

ok my bad. This is what I know about it. 3 previous owners. Service history since 2016 on the carfax report. 99,000 miles, Struts, links and tires are currently being replaced by the dealer. Limited with lots of features and the pics look like it’s in good condition. Until I go in to the dealer when they’ve finished servicing it I don’t know anything else mechanically. I’m wondering if I’d be better off sounding more for less mileage and newer even though I don’t want to spend more. But I could. If this is bad value.

Buying from Toyota dealer. I’m assuming their inspection would be good? Or not because they want to make profits? They’re replacing struts links and tires. I’d say I’m about mediocre with cars. I’ll get underneath and check for any major rust. And all the usual stuff right? Anything else you’d check for in particular? They said they’ll send me the inspection report.

It apparently has xreas. The rough plan in my mind is to remove the xreas and put some suspension more suited for off-roading on it eventually. And also sell the 20” wheels and get 17” with all terrain tires. But that would maybe be in 6montha or so. Edit: I should also add that the dealership are replacing struts and links.

I had been drooling for a 4runner for years, and finally started looking at used options a couple of years ago. So damn expensive for a used vehicle…it really made it hard to pull the trigger on a few potential candidates I came across. This is what makes it hard to determine if used 4runners are a good value. I mean, they are a great vehicle, but at some point it just isnt worth it to spend that much coin on any used vehicle.

I let the fever cool down for a bit, saved my money, and finally was in a position to buy new last Feb. Im very glad I waited all that time instead of getting used. I plan to keep it a long time so getting a new one was ideal for me. The chip shortage doesnt help, but pre-shortage the best value was buying new imo.

In my experience, purchasing Toyota's new made sense regarding the Tacoma and 4Runner.

But when we bought our Sequoia, buying used was the best way to go. Sequoias depreciate significantly.

like some other members here. In my perspective, and If all possible for OP, I would advice buying new. If you can find a garage queen it might be worth to spent the money, hence, garage queens go easily $32.000 and up, than you can as well buy new. The second hand market right now is extremely high and I think It's not going to get any better seeing more demand then supply. The world-wide C-19 disaster is far from over and we might see more delays.

Yeah, I had Sequoia's, purchased them new; hence, too much depreciation when I tried to sell them. So, they went to the kids and eventually grand kids. Actually, one of my grandsons has my first Sequoia Limited 2000, twenty one years later and 560.000 miles, still going.

The other thing the OP needs to consider is the cost to import the 4runner into the US from canada. That is going to incur cost and headaches. Also I'm pretty sure that because the truck was built in Japan and shipped to NA, you will have to pay import duties on top of whatever the costs are to import the truck. (you may be required to have the dash changed to mp/h vs kp/h. On top of all that, navigating the ever changing rules to what is needed to go across the borders as far as testing/quarantine etc and the ever changing exchange rate. Today, that 32k canadian might come out to just shy of 26, but if the cnd dollar gets stronger before your purchase, that adds a fluctuation on the price.

It can be done, but the real question to ask yourself is, will you actually save as much as you think, and is that savings worth the effort.

    best of luck!
