Angled Sliders w/ Kickout Recommendations

I am looking at sliders and was wondering if the RSG sliders angled will have enough room to use as a step to get into the vehicle? Or would you guys recommend them with top plates?

I am open to other sliders too, but seems like RSG are one of the most popular for 4runners.

 

I have the angled RSG with kickout. For rear passengers they work as a steps fine but for front not so much. For standing on them and getting stuff from the roof they work well.

 

Thanks for the feedback and pictures. I think as long as they work for steps a bit in the rear that should be fine.

 

My RCI sliders with the 20 degree angle and kick outs look the same as the RSG's in the pics.

 

I assume they're similar in fitment and usage as the Tacoma which I have now. I have the angled w/ kick-outs and able to use the front area to get into and out of the truck like a step. Of course a non-angled one would provide a better step platform but I like the looks better and it's mostly just me driving the rig around. If I had small kids or my wife drove it much I'd lean towards getting flat ones. I have a 4R on the way and going with the angled kick-out RSG's.

 

Someone here just posted within the last month that installed cali-raised sliders that were straight, not angled up with the top plate. I really liked them, that would be my choice.

From his comments, it sounded like they would work as a step. If I was gonna do sliders I would probably go with the non angled so they could be used as a step.

 

I would think any angle slider would sit just below the door sill. So if you need a box to climb up into the seat, they would probably not be what one is looking for. i can step over the 4x innovation slider, the woman uses them to climb (3" lift) in. emphasis on climb.

 

I have the RSG angled with top plates. If I was to order again, I would not get the top plates. When I stand on them to access the roof rack, I am only standing on the edge of them, not the top plates. Also, mud and other stuff collects under the top plates and mine are now rusting along the area where the top plate meets the tubing.

I went with 20 degree Westcott Design sliders. DOM steel and tig welds everything.

 

I have the cali-raised step sliders (https://caliraisedled.com/products/2010-2021-4runner-step-edition-bolt-on-rock-sliders ) and could not recommend them enough. Can be used as a step (although only about 3 inches sticks out in the front). My son is 5 and uses them to get into the back. They can definitely take a hit or 2. I got them because I wanted the insert plates and they are local to me. I did not see any brands in here I would steer clear of and I have good things to say about rci’s rear diff skid, so their sliders are probably solid as well. It is going to come down to choice and which options you like. Also, generally the vendors have Labor Day sales, which is in a weekly ail which may help make a decision, etc.

Thanks for this insight. I am leaning towards no top plate since I can get those for $699 powder coated or $599 bare. This is almost half the price of other popular brands. RSG seems to make quality stuff. I also considered Westcott but they would be around $300 more.

 

Is DOM worth the extra money?

Go custom if you want something specific.

Had a kick up (protect the side a bit) to match the rear bumper, and provide a step for setting up my RTT.

 

I opted for the RSG DOM flat w/kickout and a top plate because I knew I wanted protection and something that would be usable as a step for not only the back but for the front. I have dogs and my mom is 4'11, so if I ever drive her she'll need the step to get in hah. I personally love them and the quality and fitment are top notch. If I didn't need a step, i'd have gone with the angled kickout and no top plate because as you can see, the top plate gets pretty dirty haha.

 

I didn’t pay extra for the DOM that is all Westcott uses. I paid $850 installed.

Actually it looks like they do HREW now as well. You got a great deal I see your setup for $950 without powder coating.

 

Yeah I did this before the craziness happened. I believe his prices have gone up. It appears I lied on my prior post. I had to go pull the receipt. I paid $928 with powder coat. $240 for installation. $1168 installed. Sorry guys should have looked at my receipt before making the comment. It has been a bit since doing it.

 

240 for install? I'm hoping that means you had your welded on.

 

So the line item was for spacers. I forgot I was looking into having him install front spacer for the front suspension. So it was $948+tax. There was a lot of quotes because I was looking at roof racks, skid plates, and a bunch of other items.

 

If you're going to do top plates, I'd check out C4 Fabs rock sliders. Though they're angled, the top step plates are mounted flat which makes them way more useable.

 

Do you have any other pictures of the sliders? Might go with these due to them not having a long lead time.

Sold the Tacoma today and loved the RSG sliders on it. Just ordered some RSG angled sliders for the 4Runner I don't yet have. One day in the probably far future will post up some pics of both..

I had the HREW angled sliders with top plates, powder coated rails and logo. I went with the same on the 4R except I got DOM rails this time.

Reviving this thread. I am currently looking to orders sliders but man lead times are killing me haha

Anyone know of a good slider that doesn't have crazy long lead times? I am in socal so it can be local too.

 

Order the ones you want and just wait it out because if you settle you may get something you're not 100% happy with. I ordered mine on black friday and got them in March. It was what it was.
