On my tacoma, I did white in front and red in back seat. Purpose is I can use red one when I dont want to lose nite vision.
On 4 runner, I did blue for door opener just cause I thought it was fun.

Thanks! I leave the white dome on all the the time with the map off the doors are red for better visibility, the red map in the right is if I drop something on the highway and don’t want to blind myself. I’m in a band sometimes the back of the truck is sometimes behind the acoustic duo and it’s cool for loading gear in and out late night. Big step up from the factory bulbs though!

I was thinking of adding at least one red light on the hatch, and maybe the bottom door lights. When camping in the vehicle, it’s a pain in the ass when you are settling in for the night using the white lights and the damn car gets filled with bugs. If I use a red flashlight….no bugs.

Seems a lot of people associate red lights with prostitutes, and the 60s and grooviness. My associations are aviation, submarines, and stargazing, which are way less associated with diseases and stuff, so there is that…

Glad things settled down in here, I thought we were headed for a lightsaber battle.

although I think it’s a bit much, I do like the idea of reducing the white light when camping. 1st, nothing more annoying when your hanging out in your camp site and someone pulls in late and starts setting up with all their dam bright white light. Second, I tend to not use a flashlight when camping, so being able to get in the vehicle and not mess with my night site is a plus.

So, does anyone know of any led light kits that have both white and red built into the same “bulb”?

For example, the dome and hatch lights could normally run white, but a push of a button would go into “prepare for deep submergence” mode and flip it to red color. Anything like that around?

 

I did all my interior in red LED also - For night photography and camping, used Yorkim LEDs, about $1 each. The red light doesn't mess up your night vision. Red in the doors is better for safety.

I only used white LEDs for the 2 ceiling lights under the mirrors (just in case I drop something), 2 license plate lights and 2 mirror puddle lights. Yorkim $1 each.

Dealer Port Option was $200 for Interior White LEDs, but this ended costing me about $20 and a little time.

The tiny T5 glove box light is something I don't think you can easily change, so I left that one alone.

What brand are yours, they look very bright? I haven't tried to take a photo at night but will soon.

 

I will make a list all bulbs were from Amazon but not all were vleds the hatch bulbs and doors are other brands I’ll make a list if anyone wants it.

I like the red. For my use I'll go white but I do like the red.
Years ago, decade plus actually, I built a small red led flashlight so could walk through the bedroom without waking the wife. It works perfectly for that purpose.

That would be awesome! Wife and I were just complaining about the white LED's attracting every bug within a mile radius to the 4Runner when we were loading/unloading stuff in the dark at campsite. I was looking at the Meso Customs switchable red/white LED's for the dome light, but I like your method better! List would be awesome! Thanks for sharing!!!

 

Meso Customs has one that can be both red and very bright white. They are always backordered so sign up for notification when in.
Put them in my Tacoma and am happy.

 

Looks great. i put red in the maps and hatch. white in dome and white in door lights...but now i am thinking red in door lights to reduce bugs, thats a good call there.

There are so many options but this worked for me as you can see from the photos, the other recommended ones from others will work use canbus whenever possible

Diode Dynamics is the “A” game. I flipped to all to theirs. You can get different Brightness levels and color. Warm, natural, bright white, etc.

Downside though is cost. I got entire 4runner package on Amazon for $20 earlier. DiodeDynamics start at $10 each.
But you get very high quality and options instead of a harsh white amazon led.
You can go natural for vanity, warm for dome, very high Lum for door and trunk.

 

Are the front seat backs hard plastic?? Those seats look different than previous years.

 

Finished off my Red LED interior light project (night photographer), by adding the dome light and 2 back door lights. Door lights are Red LEDs as well.

Used Yorkim Red LED about $1 each on Amazon.

 

They are softex (synthetic leather) this is a SR5P looks like hard plastic on the photo.

 

am I missing something here? doesn't the last link(bold) cover all the lights? why order separate?

 

Last link are of lower quality abd the red is not bright I used one dome bulb abd have them for extra they will work the white is ok I wanted a mix of more bright red abd a few higher quality whites and red vled bulbs for the map etc.

 

4runner looks awesome, do you have a link or model number for the red LEDs for the interior?
