As an owner and lover of 4Runners for 25 plus years, I have finally decided to join a forum!!! Sad part is that one of the reasons is that my 15 year old "totaled" our 1999 4Runner Limited that was in great shape and only had 141,000 miles on it. The dealer and a local body shop wanted $12K to fix as the impact with a stationary tree at 35 MPH did some significant damage and he "centered" the tree damn good for a new driver :)

I am looking for any and all suggestions as I am really not sure what to do from this point. I know that if I scrapped it, I wouldn't get anything but I have 98% of the vehicle that is OEM parts.

Would love to fix it but that might not be in the cards.

    What say you????

For a 22 year old vehicle, I only carried high liability but no collision or comprehensive, which pretty much leaves me out in the cold.

it's a sign you have to let it go....it did its job and went beyond that. It was an awesome ride for 22 years and then saved a life.
No matter how much you throw at it, it will never be the same again.

I feel your pain..back in late April, some bozo crashed into my '97 ...and the insurance wanted to total it. I refused. especially after searching for about 4 weeks on a replacement vehicle, as I was going to keep my damaged 4 runner, as a parts donor. I ended dup having my collision shop fix her..took 'em 3 weeks..over 9k in costs...but it was worth it...there's not much out there for that amount..and I know exactly what I have in my '97..so I got it fixed. good luck with your decision..

Both of us walked away. Like the previous poster said, 1999 did her job protecting us!!!

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
Oh boy! Talk about bad memories. I did the same thing when I got my license at 16.
Was cruising with my friends in my parent's 196something Ford Galaxy station wagon. It was actually only about 10 years old. Pretty new, for the time. Yeah, I know, a real chick magnet, yeah?
I was passing an alley way that had a gravel surface, when I saw a couple of girls on bikes down at it's other end. Backed up, turned in, and punched it. Yep, bigger than heck, I broke traction. Let off to get it back, and it grabbed ahold, JUST in time to point us straight at a Biiiiig old oak tree. Next thing I knew, it seemed like the tree had tried to climb in with us.
My friend, who wasn't wearing a seat belt (it wasn't "cool"), left a heck of an impression on the windshield. With his head. Didn't hurt his head in the least, just a small cut. He was the original "blockhead" I guess. He joined the Marines just after I did, as a cook. He was actually a pretty good one, too. Not the brightest bulb in the string, though...
The tree was big enough that the car didn't wrap around it so much as was smashed in, like an accordion. Don't care what anyone says, it was totalled! One of those junkyard car-crushers couldn't have done much worse, at least to the front end.

Needless to say, my parents weren't real happy with me for a few months. Thankfully, it was my father's daily driver, so he had max insurance on it. I learned then to always have collision on a vehicle, I can tell you. As you can imagine, I walked for a while. Oh well...

I'm glad no one got hurt. Tells you something about the quality of Toyota's construction, that's for sure! Now you either have a large parts supply on hand, or you have one heck of a restoration project. Either way, I wish you all the best of luck!

Thanks. Spent some time growing up in Yuma (yep Yuma) as a kid and my parents actually retired in Sierra Vista from Louisiana. Love the SouthWest.

Although, not easy to find, I personally, would look for another one and make it proud with all the still good parts you have.
Glad no one was badly hurt....good luck whatever you choose to do.

I lived in Yuma nearly 30 years :D
I was in the Corps, then worked on the Aerostat for a while. Once My kids were grown up and gone, I left. I hated Yuma...
I had a couple acres right across from Britains Farm House :) Just down the canal from the animal shelter.

    Welcome indeed!
